Oh brother, I don't know where to even start with this one!

First off Nasser looks amazing there, he's 320 lbs and with abs in that video (from Nasser on the Way Part 3 shot in 2000).

He also clarifies that he's doing it just for the stretch, and isn't claiming to be able to do full range chinups with that kind of weight (400+ lbs considering that he's putting 90-135 lbs on on his 320 lb frame).

He also does that at the very end of a long intense back workout, in it he does many sets barbell rows, deadlifts, one-arm dumbell rows, seated cable rows, and pullovers...all before going to the chinup bar.

Finally, he's not a powerlifter or strength-trainer.

Dude, if he would've had a really powerful back he would've been Mr Olympia several times.

Maybe he did deserve to win it once or twice. I don't know.

Fact is, he didn't.

And Nasser didn't have a physique that was so way above everyone else that there just was no way to overlook him.

Why not look at it like this: Your bodybuilding hero/friend/or however you refer to Nasser didn't train as he could have. That made him not fulfill his true potential. What's wrong with admitting that?

Yeah, if only Nasser had training knowledge of the average getbigger he could have placed better  ::)

And if only Chad Nicholls had the knowledge of some getbiggers then at least he could have advised Nasser to train differently.  ::)

Some pros when they train you see they activate loads of muscle, no matter what "system" they use.

Be it Coleman or Yates.

Or when you see DJ train, or even with Milos and his buddies training away.

You can tell that there's muscle activity.

But Nasser - lots of times - I get the feeling he's doing partial, almost Kamali-like reps.

Not as bad as Kamali, but close.

seriously, there probably is benefit from doing something like this, as it activates those muscle groups only impacted a the start of what we refer to as a rep. Since they can actually lift, it makes sense to add weight.

besides, the muscle doesnt know how far its ROM is, nor where it is in the range, just how much force is applied. Usually partial reps go to the point of maximum moment...around 50% of full range in most exercises, as thats where the most power is required, but theres really no reason to go that far...you can go shorter distances but do more reps.

still, it seems counterproductive in terms of energy conservation. why waste time and effort on something seemingly inefficient?..better to make use of the time in the gym and available energy doing something more stimulating.

but hey, pro BB arent known for their grey matter, or ability to understand social and physical concepts (yet hoards of ppl buy their books and go to their seminars and ask them questions)..otherwise they'd realise the risks they are taking through their use of hormones.

i do these too. I call them "scapulae stretchers"  thing is, like Hedge said, he looks like he's not really connecting at all, or effectively training.  Looks like a shitty workout, plain and simple.

I have seen all the vids that we all have seen.

Dorian's inspire me and the dude looks like he's busting his ass and getting in a KILLER workout, same with Ronnie.....even more so.

Nasser looks like he doesn't know what the fuck he is doing

nassers videos are lifestyle videos rather than hardcore training. They are shot to feature all the clothes he will be offering on his site at a future date.  ;D

I would guess that the majority of posters here actually do train, and the minority that don't are schmoes like "testes" who are only here for the pics of "muscley" men to use as jerk material.

True Nasser Encounter
« Reply #71 on: June 23, 2009, 02:06:13 AM »
A couple weeks ago I was at a local coffee shop with a friend.  As my friend and I made our way toward the door of the establishment to sit at one of the outside tables she cut in front of a kind of large individual who was also heading for the door forcing him to stop in his tracks.

He let out a frustrated and tired sounding sigh.  I looked at him and realized that it was Nasser!  Then as he started forward again I quickly cut in front of him as well and made my way to the door.

It takes a while for nasser to waddle back and forth due to his disabilities and wandering eyes. Please don't cut him off again.

Dorian Yates cut him off
Ronnie Coleman cut him off
His surgeries cut him off (and up)
The IFBB cut him off
Society cut him off
His friends cut him off
His wife cut him off
His father cut him off
Reality cuts him off from time to time.
Getbig cuts him off daily

Please show this poor man some sympathy. He's been through a lot  :'(
