Taylor, you are incorrect.

Fat oxidation has very little to do with absolute calorie intake.

Since fat is regulated by insulin, and insulin's preeminent effect is to inhibit fat oxidation, then by default, anyone interested in fat loss has to embrace some degree of carbohydrate restriction.

Insulin controls fat, carbohydrates control insulin.

I'm not aware of any studies showing effect of dietary carbohydrate restriction (vs. dietary fat restriction) on fat loss as long as rate of weight loss is the same and protein is kept high enough. I'm also not aware of any studies showing effect of insulin release patterns on body composition given the same conditions.
