700 NYC teachers are paid to do nothing

Long live the Unions!  ::)
No wonder GM went down!

700 NYC teachers are paid to do nothing

NEW YORK – Hundreds of New York City public school teachers accused of offenses ranging from insubordination to sexual misconduct are being paid their full salaries to sit around all day playing Scrabble, surfing the Internet or just staring at the wall, if that's what they want to do.

Because their union contract makes it extremely difficult to fire them, the teachers have been banished by the school system to its "rubber rooms" — off-campus office space where they wait months, even years, for their disciplinary hearings.

The 700 or so teachers can practice yoga, work on their novels, paint portraits of their colleagues — pretty much anything but school work. They have summer vacation just like their classroom colleagues and enjoy weekends and holidays through the school year.

This is appauling but not shocking.  In a government facility I am involved with, there are some gov employees that do very little and everyone knows it, but its too difficult to fire them.  We have to protect our workers, but not so much so that we create inefficiency and waste money.

In the case that you mentioned, their only crime is doing very little and getting paid anyway, and yes they should be fired for that.

But in the case of those NYC teacher, they are "accused of offenses ranging from insubordination to sexual misconduct", and they are now being paid to do nothing.  It's almost like a reward for their misconduct.

I am glad I have friends to really educate me on affairs in america including New York. The teachers you are talking about have been accused of misconduct by students or other teachers who have vendettas. I have been informed that some students have falsified claims of sexual harassment, of having affairs, of receiving gifts etc in order to get rid of a teacher "they don't like". This teacher, many of whom have taught in the school system for years, even decades, have been placed on this paid leave while this case is investigated. Thankfully for the UNIONS who demand investigations and proof of such claims many of these teachers have been reinstated back into their jobs because after the investigation it was found out that the student(s) LIED. To me the lying students parents would have to PAY FULLY FOR THE CHILDS EDUCATION FOR THE REST OF THEIR EDUCATION LIFE after pulling a stunt like this. This game harps of the Salem witch hunts where children thought it fun to claim people were witches and would cause the person to be jailed of not killed over the claim. Needless to say the public school children are digging their own graves in refusing education, causing trouble, making wild claims etc. they are already at a disadvantage being seen as graduating from public school, add to this the history of having filed false claims, the poor academic performance they have and the potential for losing more good teachers to these charges, these students will end up being classified as special education or being psychologically disturbed and end up in a state sponsored institution where they will be drugged into zombies....
