Fox vs MSNBC
« on: June 23, 2009, 05:42:14 PM »
So I finally found out why the numbers are so different.  I recently bought a home on the west coast. When I was getting cable hooked up I was just going to get the "basic package" (29.99)  (i don't really have time to watch that much tv) I noticed all the networks were there except MSNBC, I looked at the "bronze package"(39.99) no MSNBC. "Silver Package"(49.99) is where it had MSNBC.  Many people in America CANT GET MSNBC in less they actually have a pretty beefy cable package.  Same goes in Atlanta, and Fort Myers... In Fort Myers and Atlanta I have Comcast and both bills are over 100 each...

But the ratings aren't based on that anyway. If u don't have the choice to watch MSNBC then they really can't generate accurate ratings.

what?  I thought if Body knows, it would be usefull to say.  I don't know for a fact.  I've heard several different versions of how it works but don't know for sure.  so if Body knows he could have said.  It's not my bust for basically saying, "AND?!?"

the trolling has gotten extremely bad as of late...perhaps the mods can do something or perhaps you can actually try to contribute to the board?

Sorry.  I'm a advertising consultant and I also buy media for large companies.  TV works like radio.  Neilson is an independent company that is subscribed to by the TV industry.  It's how they form their rate structure (cost).  When ratings are compiled, there is a sample "panel" that is made up of all the major demos -adults 25-54, 18-34 - etc.  Each panel has a set amount of viewers and all those viewers have equal access to the programs available.  The ratings you see are what the viewers prefer with all choices available.  If Fox beats MSNBC it's legit.  Ex: When given the chance x amount of viewers from the test panel prefer Fox compared to MSNBC when given the chance to watch both. Further more, major networks only handle NATIONAL advertising on their programs.  The cable companies do the local and regional stuff.  Thats why you see local commercials in your market only.  Ex:you wont see a commercial for Bills car dealership in MA, but you might see it in TX (where Bill's is located).
