http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basij

The Basij — also Bassij or Bache Jarghi, or Persian: بسيج is a paramilitary force founded by the order of the Ayatollah Khomeini in November 1979. The Basij are subordinate to, and receive their orders from, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and Khamenei.

The force has been widely used in violent suppression of widescale protests following the 2009 Iranian presidential election, with an indeterminate number of unarmed protesters being killed.

Consisting of young conservative Iranians who volunteer to join this force[1] the Basij are most notable for their loyality to the supreme leader Khamenei. Currently Basij serve as an auxiliary force engaged in activities such as internal security as well law enforcement auxiliary, the providing of social service, organizing of public religious ceremonies, and more controversially morals policing and the suppression of dissident gatherings.[2][3] They have a local organization in almost every city in Iran.[4]

LOL...

You'd have a lot of small-penised chickenhawks here who might join such a force.

But in the USA, the crowd would be firing back.  Which MSNBC announcer was it that said this uprising would end quickly when he kids realized you can't tweet an armed guard.

yep

try to imagine what it would look like in the US if an ultra-conservative, right wing religious regime allowed/encouraged a group of volunteer supporters to go into the street on motorcyles with guns and clubs to break up a peaceful demonstration of the opposition party (or anyone who opposes their authority)

haha those kids on the bikes with the helmets would piss their pants and run for the suburbs once the 'real' conservatives came home from work and decided to quiet that riff raff haha...

I love America.  Sure, we are a-holes to the rest of the world, but we have such an amazing system of checks and balances here.  our founding fathers were onto something.  We whine, we are selfish, but we all respect the right of everyone else to voice their opinion, no matter how wrong it may be.

if mccain/palin had won with 70% of the vote, and chicago had voted 80% for mccain, we'd have seen mass protests too.
