20 min workout, worth it?
« on: June 24, 2009, 11:37:42 AM »
So my lazy ass can't wake-up in the morning for shit- which leaves me with about 20-25 mins to train some mornings, seeing as I eat, let the food settle and caffeine kick in, then head to the gym.  Plus, I work about an 1 hour away from where I live. You guys think the days of 20-25 mins training are worth even going to the gym?

I think you can do a work out in this short time. You can just do the basic lifts with high intesity and just a few, or even one set. Chins, Deadlifts, Benchpress, Rows, Squats, Front Press - three of this exercises in one work out. I did a similar kind of work out and my strenght went up a few weeks.

Thank you for the responses, I usually try to hit bi's or chest on these days since it's easier to get a good pump and I can get in and get out.  I still try to train hard, get great pumps but I wasn't sure I could do enough in that short of time.

If you're that worried, why not just wake up earlier and have a little more time?

i can train any bodypart in under 20 minutes and have a great workout.

in fact, today i'll do chest/shoulders/bi's/tris and be done it in 45-55 minutes.

here's an example- its a modified doggcrap workout to suit me.

chest-

warm up

flat bench:

max weight for 7 reps. rest 20 seconds 5 more reps. rest 20 second 3 reps.

incline bench:

max weight for 7 reps. rest 20 seconds 5 more reps. rest 20 second 3 reps.

then:

2 straight sets of 12 reps of any fly exercise, dumbell or pec-dec.

this can be done in less than 20 minutes. it applies enough stimulus to be able to recruit enough fiber to make the workout demanding. but due to the fact the volume isn't prohibitive, depending on your supplements, it can be done 3 times a week as well.

I've got an injured thumb/wrist right now which is limiting my upper body and i'm doing the following workout in 30 mins

6 x Crossovers/Pulldowns superset
6 x cable curl/pushdown/db laterals triset
6 x Romanian deadlift/cable crunch/Standing calf triset.

Ain't gonna get me big anytime soon but it's keeping me ticking over.

20mins is a lot of time if you don't piss about.

20 minutes is a great workout, just focus on one or two body parts and it is more than enough

the answer would change from day to day, from person to person, from muscle to muscle, from carb intake to carb intake, etc etc etc.

if all you got is 20minutes you can definitely MAKE SURE you get a good workout. start going 100% intensity from first set and keep it that way till you leave.

Again thank you for all of the feedback- I said lazy, but my work schedule just leaves me tired as shit in the mornings.  Granted a quick workout is better than none.  Def realizing training gets harder as you have a family, work, and life's other bullshit  :)

go to bed 15 minutes earlier and get up 15 minutes earlier....add that 30 minutes to you 20 now and you have plenty of time.
