I prefer the modern bodybuilding look of 3D, massive, great conditioning, full and ripped. Physiques that come to mind are Dennis James, Victor Martinez, Toney Freeman and Dennis Wolf

IO, you seem to know your shit.....1983 nationals those guys have any access to HGH at that point?....from what i know theu were still taking it out of cadavers at that point, but i know somewhere around that period it started making its way into the sport

Bob Paris said in his book he used gh, i think it was for the 83 nationals, said it was expensive, probably the russian stuff that was around back then! think it was called grorm

thanks for the info man.....there is definatly a big difference in 1983 nationals, compared to even the olympia a few years before

something had to be responsible for the thinner skin, tighter, fuller muscles, and overall grainer look then they had than just a few years before.......say in 1975 when pumping iron was filmed, arnold and louie and co. were not smaller per se.....but they definatly were not as lean,,,,,,dieuretics too maybe?

,,,,,,i was just born around this time, my knowledge does not stretch that far back.

In my opinion one of the best examples of the beginning of gh into bodybuilding was Lee Haney, see the 83 Olympia where he got 3rd then see the 84 Olympia where he destroyed everyone! Platz between 80 and 81 is another example! gh15 mentioned that Haney used to use a russian gh that was 192 amino acid, these days we have 191 amino acid

The trophy is just a symbol of all the work and dedication that went into it. Im sure all those guys put in the hard work to be there. But yes Christian's actions were childish and disrespectful to all. Suprised the NPC did not penalize him for that display.

Did Titus get penalized when he broke his trophy after Hernon won?

I think the outcome of that contest could have gone either way, with Rory or Bob winning. Probably came down to something we didn't see (in the clip), either prejudging or maybe in the posing round...perhaps one didn't show up as sharp in previously and got better over time, etc...
Anyway...I prefer those guys' looks any day over the current smooth but huge look.
