Bernie's crime was worse because the money he stole can be measured in loss of human life, and surely far more than one.

that is not his fault the people decided to commit suicide over his actions.  Take for example Moosejay, a great poster and I love him, great man.  Ok, but he was smeared on here, people said horrible things and his reputation was ruined, if he commited suicide over that would that make the people on here to blame for his death? 

You can't say Maddoff made these people kill themselves or else you are opening a flood gates as to other things people do that make other people choose their actions, girls breaking up with guys and guys killing themselves over it, do you want to put all those woman in prison because the boyfriends life revolved around the girl?

Same with Maddoff, should he be held liable for these peoples deaths even though he stole from them, they decided to kill themselves distraught of losing money, not him.

Whose crime was worse - Bernie Madoff or Craig Titus?

"Worse" in what way?  Worse for society?  Craig's crime had nearly zero impact on society.  He killed someone who will be missed by a handful of family members at best.  Maddoff's crime ruined literally thousands of lives, and shook overall confidence in an entire industry.  Looking at the big picture, it isn't even close.

However, when looking at who is a danger to society post-crime, obviously Craig is the one who needs to be in prison.  Titus is a violent sociopath, while Maddoff, after being stripped of his riches and disgraced, is a harmless 71-year-old man.

So I guess it depends on how you look at it.

very perceptive........she was the one who made the descision that melissa james had to die, and pushed craig into agreeing to kill her..............yet she will serve three to four years in jail, come out, and very  possibly get very rich off the whole ordeal.................. ....she will say in books and interviews that she was just a brainwashed victim, stockholm syndrome........that craig was a sick perverted homocidal maniac and she was cast under his spell.  she will go on talk shows, say she found god, people will lament for her plight............she is a real fucking sociopath.

i mean how often does a man have an affair and kill the woman he is having an affair with?  unless the crazy wife finds out???

this is just another example of how shafted men are in the american legal system.......females get 1/50th of the sentence when a man and woman murder together, even if the woman was the one with the motive, women win every case of coustody, divorce, sexual politics, domestic violence.........its really amazing how castrated modern males let themselves become

you make some great points...I think Craig kinda got the shaft here...not that he didn't deserve to get the time for what he did to that poor girl, but that it seems he truly loved Kelly and he tried to protect her and stand by her by murdering the girl (possibly at Kelly's behest) and then going on the run with her to try to keep her out of jail....then he takes a plea, basically taking 90% of the responsibility in order to spare his wife.....and then he humiliates himself by crying in court because he saw her in the courtroom and still loves her, and she ignores him and doesn't really even acknowledge him..WOW...at this point, I'm sure craig is looking back and wondering how he got into this situation and how he got conned by Kelly since he is the smarter of the two...

i think you are compleatly right........a drug habit will bring the best man to his knees........when you have that monster inside of you, the person you were becomes almost unrecognizable.......

in this case, from what i observed......they both are 100% responsible, since it was never addressed in court that kelly ryan was the one who decided she had to die, probably cause titus was trying to protect his wife, see how far that got him, that vindictive bitch..........since they are equally responsible, it is a mockery of our justice system that she would get one days less in jail compared to her husband.....at true perversion of justice

you're right...the justice system has been taken for a ride for many years in situations like this...women commit murders, armed robberies, drug deals, etc, with men and when something happens, the men take the brunt of the weight and wind up being sentenced far more harshly than women..

and as we both have said, it's usually due to the men standing up and being men by insisting that they did everything in order to protect their wives and girlfriends under some misguided loyalty, or the females simply claim to have been under the spell of the male and was brainwashed.....

maybe there is an unconscious gender bias by the court, or it could be because the courts don't want the children of these women to have to grow up without mothers......which would inflict massive harm on them when they are simply innocent bystanders in the whole thing.
