The big thing I remember them for is hijacking planes and crashing them into some buildings.

But July 4th - Independence Day - America is stll one of the best countries in the world.  Various freedoms, ability to work hard and make something of yourself, and much more.   There are way too many countries out there who just envy that.

Exactly.  In the Republican vs Democrat thing, people focus too much on the middle-america Christ-tards and their agenda, and forget that excluding the religious crap and the idiotic policy positions that flow from it, the Republicans are right about nearly everything else.  If the economic conservatives could jetison the religious whackos from the GOP and still effectively challenge the Socialists Democrats they would.  Unfortunately, the unholy alliance is necessary to win elections.  I think a large part of why Europe is so socialist is they're less religious.  This means the economic conservatives over there have no large group they can partner with to effectively challenge the socialists, who the unthinking sheep will always vote for thinking they will get something for nothing.
