i was promoted to patrol Sgt on Monday, everything was going great. two days later i was off duty, in my garage working on my motorcycle when i get a call from my chief, he says "can you get here quick we got a situation". i say "sure, be there in 7-12 minutes". i get there, go to his office, sit down, and he says "your employment is being terminated effective immediately due to at-will termination". me not knowing the term ask what is at will. he shows me in our policy manual that he can fire me for no reason at all if he feels like it. i ask did anything lead up to this, he said "no, it is just at-will".
i called my TMPA rep on the way out of town and they said they have been having a lot of problems with the "at-will" policies lately. i have no intention of pressing any type of civil charges or anything like that. i just want to make sure my F5 form shows the reason i was fired was the reason i was given.
on my way home i stopped by another pd filled out a app, talked to their chief, and have a review board for Tuesday. so things aren't all that bad.
i made them come to my house for my uniforms and shit, because i didn't want to make a second trip. so i am drinking some brew and BBQ today. thank god i was fired or i would have never had today off!!!
