Andy Roddick, Heart of a champion
« on: July 05, 2009, 03:20:54 PM »
He came up short today and tears came out his eyes when he lost. But nobody can deny his heart and courage to keep staying in the match and giving Federer everything he had. 2 sets a piece, 16-14 Roger.  :'(

Roddick, you'll always be champ in my eyes  8)

im glad he lost, i watched the game and heard that he met his current wife by seeing her picture in a magazine and getting his "manager" to contact her.

1. What a money hungry slut his wife must be.
2. What a sad fuck he is for having to get his agent to call women he sees in magazines.

3. Federer is a much nicer individual and hes not American.

Never cared for Roddick before, as I saw him as horribly overrated 'just because' he happened to be the #1 American player which, frankly, hasn't meant jack shit for several years.

Today, he played some monster tennis and showed tremendous heart in that 5th set.  It sucks that it ended on a mishit like that, but I did enjoy the drama of it all.

Is men's tennis back?  No, it's still not interesting, but if Roddick and someone else can start giving Federer and Nadal some competition on a consistent basis, then maybe people will start tuning in again.

he is one of the best tennis players on the fucking planet!

Regardless of how well he played today, he's been undeniably overrated and overhyped his entire career.

Tennis needs dominant Americans in order to be interesting.  Remember the days of Courier, Chang, Agassi, Sampras, etc?  That's when every tennis major or mini-major was a must-see event.  Now people just tune in, at most, for the finals of the majors and even today, most people didn't start watching until the 5th set.

Contrast that to golf, which only a few people ever watched on a week-to-week basis for most of the 80s and 90s.  Sure, the majors got attention and larger ratings, but it wasn't *huge* until the advent of Tiger.  Now, any event he's in gets Thursday-Friday coverage and if he's playing well, people adjust their weekends just to see him play a few holes on Sunday.

People love the Tiger-Phil rivalry that has emerged now that Phil has a couple of green jackets, but a PGA event only needs Tiger in order to get the viewers.

I grew up playing tennis and was a tennis fanatic most of my life, but have almost no interest at all in the men's game today.  I think Federer is brilliant, but too much of his dominance came during a time when there were no challengers.  Now, it's not his fault that no one was good enough, but I think that speaks to the overall decline in the quality of the game more than to his simply being the best to ever play the game.

to be interesting to you americans, its realy interesting for everyone else, people pay thousands of dollars to go se them play, nowdays the nadal federer rivalry is quite good

and if you call roddick overrated, then you need to change sports, he has been a top player for a while now, he is a super nice dude, eve lost a game cause the referee called in his favor, but he said it was the other way around! thus loosing a shitload of money by doing that... you just dont know shit about tennis it seems
