Echelon Conspiracy - trailer & review
« on: July 09, 2009, 07:36:16 AM »
This is actually a pretty good movie. I got the impression that not all the actors were on the same page about the genre, ...but still it was pretty good. I thought the climax was pretty ...unoriginal... for want of a better word, ...but some solid performances and curiosity keep you watching, and the end is a total surprise I don't think anyone could have predicted.

It stars Shane West, Martin Sheen, Ving Rhames, and Edward Burns with a brief cameo by Jonathon Pryce

It's basically a computer program that randomly monitors cell phone conversations for keywords. Yes, with a subpoena it can be targeted to a specific phone.

Essentially, the technology Google uses to decide which ads people see while reading e-mails is based upon Echelon. :)

The days when people can expect a certain level of privacy have been gone since the day some geek figured out hard-wired telephones could be listened to from space.
