One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world.

Wow, another genius who understands Ayn Rand in and out ::)

Ursus, read "The Fountainhead" - you can't go wrong ;)

read any of those?

no

just look at the titles

Personal power 2
The Power of Now
Psycho Cybernetics
Think and Grow Rich
How to Win Friends and Influence People

only an insecure person with low self esteem and lack of willpower would buy these garbage.

"How to win friends"  ::), i mean they cant be serious. as if there is a specific "method" of winning friends and growing rich. everyone would be a successful bussinesman just reading these books...... lol

I've read 4 of the 5 and I agree with your assessment on 2 of those 4. The "Power of Now" is a whole different category than the other 4, I can guarantee you that, has nothing to do with how to get "successful". If one is interested in what the methods of successful people are, "Think and Grow Rich" is the one to go for, all others like Robbins etc. are just copy cats who never made any money other than by ripping off Hill. But I agee that just by reading such a book (except of "The Power of Now", which has nothing to do with the others), one does not get successful.

That = a pretty judgemental attitude actually.

Anybody with some propensity for critical thinking (read: Not Spermballtaste or Johnny Falcon) could pick up a few good ideas from almost any book.

Though there is no "scientificly correct" method to "winning friends" or whatever, reading others thoughts on the subject can cause some self reflection that again causes improvement, especially for people not used to meeting and integrating with new groups. If you are insecure and lacking willpower for wanting to check out new ideas and get ammo for self reflection, then well :o

"How to win friendsand influence people" never claimed to be a "scientific method" to meeting friends, just a few tips that can aid one in self reflection and social interaction, if the individal chooses to use them after thinking critically about it.

Too each their own, but your post had Spermballtaste-like lack of any kind of reasoning, and you are not that dumb ;D

My experience is this: they all ripped off Hill and added one or two gimmicks or a little bit of pseudo-scientific mumbo jumbo and then claim that's what's so revolutionary about their "method". If you just compare the first few pages of those books, they are almost identical. Same goes for the ending, where they all say how you should forget about all the greediness supported by the book and that what's really important is to help other people and find peace of mind or some hippie crap like that. ;D

Real Talk...... I highly recommend  GATES OF FIRE by Steven Pressfield. It's the book that the movie 300 was  based off of.

No...The movie 300 was based off of Frank Miller's comic.

Practically no book will really "change your life", but some can give you a few god ideas and thoughts that you can benefit from.

MOST of the books posted here are total crap that only pseudo-intellectuals read and consider profound. In reality only a few of the books listed could ever "Change someone's life" and this is IF you read them right.

If you want a book that will change your life, you must read it correctly, and that book is "The Singularity is Near" by Ray Kurzweil.

Another suggestion would be "Demon Haunted World" by Sagan.

Debussey can't understand why people are so quick to "judge" books.

A book you find somewhat interesting is like a chick. You hit on her and if there is mutual interest (you find the book interesting in the beginning), you move forward. After a while you find out if she's cool and decide if you wanna date her in the future or not, or if she's a fruitcake.
Same with books. They can look cool and shit or the opposite from tv/media/friends ect, but you don't know before you've read it for a while

The same book can suck or some and be good for others.

Oh, if you are new to an area, it really does not matter much if you read the "original" or copycat version of a book, as long as they both give you somewhat accurate info.
