Weekly Address: Recovery and the Jobs of the Future
« on: July 11, 2009, 06:06:09 AM »
The President explains how the Recovery Act helped end our economic free fall, and how his agenda is helping to set a new foundation for our economy. From health reform, to energy, to creating the jobs of the future, the Presidents proposals will make our economy stronger for both the current generations and our children, all in a way that will get our deficits under control. The response:

Top House Republican slams Obama over stimulus, jobs
Posted: 11:45 AM ET

From CNN Associate Producer Martina Stewart

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia, the number two Republican in the House of Representatives, used the weekly Republican radio and internet address to slam President Barack Obama's $787 billion stimulus plan.

Saying the stimulus bill passed earlier this year was "full of pork barrel spending, government waste, and massive borrowing," the House Minority Whip also says in Saturday's address that "President Obama's economic decisions have not produced jobs, have not produced prosperity, and have not worked."

Citing the millions of jobs lost this year and a national unemployment rate hovering just under ten percent, Cantor also uses this week's address to assert that the stimulus package has failed to deliver as promised by Democrats.

"Remember the promises? They promised you if you paid for their stimulus, jobs would be created immediately. . . . Yet just months later, they are telling us to brace for unemployment to climb over ten percent. They promised jobs created. Now they scramble to find a way to play games with government numbers by claiming jobs saved.

"Simply put, this is now President Obama's economy and the American people are beginning to question whether his policies are working."

Last week, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, the second ranking Democrat in the House, said in an interview on FOX News Sunday that he was "disappointed" at the slow pace at which the stimulus package was creating jobs in the midst of a recessionary economy. "We're looking at ways to get the money out more quickly."

Also in an interview last week on ABC's "This Week," Vice President Joe Biden said Democrats had misjudged just how much trouble the economy was in.

"The truth is there was a misreading of just how bad an economy we inherited. Now I'm not laying this on anybody. It's our responsibility," Biden said last week.

He's holding the most important one in the nation right now son, deal with it. The one that determines how much of your little check you get to keep.  ;D Of course he knows the kinds of jobs to be created, the recovery plan is his creation.

Nice box of Kool Aid up threre. Seems like quite a few around here are drinking FIXED News and right wing talk radio's HATERADE. You're going to need to drink a lot more when our Supreme Court Justice sails through this week, we get heath care and energy bill done by early fall, and by the 4th quarter this countries economy will be percolating. Hope you don't get run over by the Obama express, because with all the accomplishments the president could kick back and cruise into a second term after the first eighteen months.  ;D

Funny, China and India are not going along with this mess.  Health Care is DOA right now.

"Recovery"????  How does wasting 700 billion on worthless pork projects get a recovery?

Additionally, he specifically said that without the stim bill, UE would be at max 8.8%    Now, with the stim bill, its racing to over 10%.

Either is a liar, a failure, or just someone who is just plain dumb on basic economics.

The money is directly dispersed to state governments over a few years, which works well because it will back up to a few congressional elections....artificial growth, handouts and the like will def. help many of the Dem. incumbents during this time.

China already implemented a stimulus package, JACKASS. India implemented not one, but TWO.

Utilize the right wing talking points all you want. They are great for FAT DUMMIES like yourself.  ;D A stimulus is the only alternative in a severe economic downturn. Even your man St. Reagan knew that, and he wasn't very bright. His stimulus brought about the biggest economic boom this country had yet seen...the 1980's. Of course, the Obama admin could have sat on their collective hands and watched the economy melt down completely like the Do-Nothing Repube Party you embrace wanted. Massive tax cuts for the rich...yeah, that would have stopped an economy in complete free fall since last September.  ::)

The Obama team has forgotten more about economics than you can learn in 100 years of cutting and pasting from google. The unemployment projection is IRRELEVANT. It was going to reach what it ulimately reaches regardless of any projection. As I stated previously...this is "Recession/Econ 101," kids ::) ...unemployment is a lagging economic indicator. The economy will be back in full swing long before the unemployment numbers stabilize. That's how we make money and the chumps come in when the markets are already on an upswing.  ;)

over two years, but really starts to have its impact over the second half of this year...

And its not artificial growth when you are talking jobs that put unemployed people back to work.

The stim money is being used for states' payroll, not private economic stimulus.

Like I said, ask for a refund for your tuition because you are clueless about basic economics.

Uh, what happens when the Stimulus money is fully dispersed and all the roads have been repaved? This is the definition of artificial growth. The market and private sector didn't create these jobs it was simply the govt. borrowing and redistributing income to create these jobs and when the money is gone....the job is gone. But the debt remains.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!! He does not know WHAT kinds of jobs to be created in an effecicent manner!!!!! NO ONE DOES!!!!! No one can possibly konw. That's the whole point. Ofcourse, government can create the kinds of jobs it wants because it has the power of law, but it cannot do so in an EFFICEINT manner(creating jobs it wants without killing MORE others) because it does not have the power of omniscient knowledge. And who cares about this Supreme Court nomine? Its a liberal replacing a liberal. And it is this retarded cap and trade scheme that is causing his approval ratings to collapse. People are still losing jobs and the Dems are talking about curbing coal emissions to stop global warming. So no, there is a good chance that this stuff will not pass.
Jan. Jobs: 36,000!!
