UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre suffered a groin injury during his successful title defense against Thiago Alves at UFC 100. However, the injury will not require surgery, according to a statement released by The Canadian Press.

TORONTO – The news from the doctors is good for UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre.
A groin injury sustained in St. Pierre’s UFC successful title defence over Thiago Alves at UFC 100 in July 11 is not that serious, according to his management.
“Evaluation of the results of an MRI indicate that no surgery will be required, and Georges should be back in the gym training within a few weeks after a brief rehabilitation,” a statement said Saturday.
The 28-year-old from Montreal hurt his groin in the fourth round of his unanimous five-round decision over Alves in Las Vegas.
