I don't know why the ez-bar was invented, but suspect it may have been a comfort creation.  While what he says about hand position - both in terms of spacing and rotation - is certainly true, the change in angle allows you to add more weight.  More weight = recruitment of more muscle fibers for the portions of the bicep being worked.

Ez-bar curls do work, but I believe most would agree that straight bar curls work the biceps more completely with each rep.

I don't do them, though...and I also don't know why I'm preaching to the choir at 3am.  You guys know this stuff. lol

I effed up my wrist doing straight bar curls.  I couldn't turn a doorknob for a week! After that i went to the EZ curl bar, and my wrists thank me for it.

But, maybe I might go back to the straight bar.

its gotta be straight bar, but every once in a while hitting the ez with the close grip then wide grip is good for a change, but straight bar curls are the foundation of good biceps

True Tim,and the ideal position to contract the biceps is with the little finger slightly higher than the thumb.Watch the way Larry does them.

Always hated the EZ curl bar... my gym has those pre-loaded straight bars that aren't as long as the olympic barbells, so I use those for barbell curls and skullcrushers.

From what I have seen and heard over the past, straight bar curls (including reverse curls) have built more pure muscle mass as the number one bicep exercise. Either with a Olympic or just a plain exercise bar. People tell me there always seems to be something lacking when doing curls with the EZ bar, just by the feel of the exercise. Heavy, slight cheat, straight bar curls seem to be the way to go for them.

But if you put you empty hands in front of you, like you were holding a bar to curl, the hands will be in a natural EZ bar grip, turned in a bit. If EZ curls work for you the best, with less stress on the wrist, than go for it.

EZ bars work well for upright rows and triceps for a lot of people.

Today's bodybuilders have to use the EZ-bar due to the amount of GH they are doing.  :D
