Dear Elected Representatives:

   I am writing to express my opposition to the current health care and “cap & trade” plans being proposed by both the White House and the Congress.   

   The Congressional Budget Office confirmed that the “health care bill” will add to the current deficit and national debt.  Additionally, adding a payroll tax of 8% to small businesses and “surtax” to “wealthy” taxpayers will only lead to more layoffs and continued unemployment.  Finally, without “tort reform” being an essential part of this bill, it defies all common sense and logic to think that adding 45 million new patients to the system will not lead to a flood of new malpractice lawsuits.  Now is not the time to make a bad situation even worse! 

   With respect to the so called “cap & trade” bills being pushed through the Senate, China and India confirmed that they will not abide by any carbon emissions restrictions in their economies.  Accordingly, it seems entirely reckless, counter-productive, and dangerous to pursue any measures which will add to the cost of energy to consumers and businesses when unemployment is already near 10%.  Finally, “cap & trade” has proven itself to be a complete failure wherever it has been tried and is yet another tax on already over-burdened taxpayers.         

   The biggest issue facing our nation is the economy, not “cap & trade” and health care reform.  We need to focus on policies that promote domestic manufacturing, wealth creation, and sound money, not programs that add to the national debt and tax burden of businesses and individuals alike.  Thus, I urge you to re-consider the present agenda and instead focus on policies and programs that will improve the economy, not harm it.  Thank you.
