Bingo.  Constantly dwelling on race makes it harder to move forward cooperatively.

Maybe that's why we shouldn't dwell on it, ...but understand how it affects our lives, so we can move beyond it.

Racism affects many people but I don't hear the same public outcry for other types of racism as I do when we hear about white/black relations.  Even though the country elected Obama people still think everyone is racist.

Race has no effect on my life what so ever, each person gets treated with common courtesy until they prove they don't deserve it. At that point it isn't because of the color of their skin its because they are an asshole.

IMHO the only people that constantly dwell on race are those who stand to gain something from it. Be it the Gates of the world or the KKK members, they all gain something from racism.

Where do you think people like Jesse Jackson would be with the issue of race? They don't want it to go away because it butters their bread.

It may be more beneficial to just move the fuck on and chuck the race baiters overboard.

Of course, but that's as likely to happen as an honest conversation on race.

One thing to keep in mind is that the race baiters don't reside in one camp exclusively.

DING DING DING.  We have a winner.  ;D

The same goes for Mulattoes like Obama.  Mulattoes are considered black by white people and white by black people and experience much more racism as a result.  Yet their average IQ is exactly in the middle between black and white, exactly as genetic theory predicts.

Another DUMB ASS POST by Matt C...
Mulattoes for the most part are considered black by black people. I know I have a lot in my family and went to school with alot of them.

And their average IQ is eactly in the middle between white and black...What sort of SHIT are you smoking?  You make blanket statements that youknow nothing about, and use old south reasoning...so i guess light skin blacks are smarter than dark skinned ones? According to your supreme logic...

Matt you are the ultimate Dumb Fuck!

You better think again. Race affects society. as a member of society, ...you are affected.
Whether those experiences are positive or negative can often be determined based on race. You're still affected.

Gain something like... oh... I dunno... equitable treatment perhaps?
Ya know... like Rosa Parks did when she refused to give up her seat.

Like so many people who chose to boycott the Montgomery bus lines?

As do those who enjoy the privileges racism provides for them...
They get to enjoy their priviledge without that nasty unsavoury part about wondering how they got so lucky.

Neither do the many unconscious racists who benefit from the privileges racism in America provides them.

Gates makes his living off talking about race.  Actually, this episode will get him a ton of street cred.

I never said that they did. It is in the race baiter's objective, on both sides, to keep the fire burning. Lots of money, power, control, politics and TV time to be had.

Its always funny when libs bring up Rosa Parks or some other civil rights even from 50 YEARS AGO!!!!Jesus, you people act as though blacks are still getting water hosed in the street. The vast majority of people go to work, try to raise their families and dont give a flying fuck about race untill some little sawed off runt like Gates or Wright throws it up in our face.

The only reason race effects society is again because someone has somthing to gain from it. It is nothing more than that, weather it be power over another person, money, face time on the TV.........

Ok how far do you want to go back? I'm sure the Egyptians were pissed of when Moses led the Isrealites ( their slaves) to freedom.
And the Romans, holy shit can you imagine the outrage against Sparticus.
It's not 1960, its 2009

Gee, thanks for letting me know. Now, I guess I have no choice but to agree with it ::)
how about actually commenting on his comments and why you disapprove of them instead of simply  ::), that is what a CONVERSATION is...maybe thats why you believe a conversation will do nothing especially if you act the way you do here...

This isn't racism. Yes, people do tend to have friends with the same skin color, but our friends also tend to dress like us, speak in a similar manner and have like backgrounds. If you see a group of young guys in New York, they are all likely to be dressed in the same way- whether it be prep/jock, alt-hip hop or emo- and use the same type of slang. There are exceptions, but these types of commonalities don't typically transcend race. Additionally, these types of commonalities aren't solely due to race. There are a lot of black guys at my gym, but when I joined I could immediately tell which "clique" I was going to be a part of. I didn't make any special effort to start a conversation with these guys, but just based on superficial stuff like their ages, the way they were dressed and their general fitness level, it seemed sort of inevitable that we would start hanging out. For the record, "the crew" consists of two white guys, three black guys- all similar professions, similar backgrounds, etc.

As for the rest of your post, I will just say that your ideas on race don't appear to be  all that well thought-out. Your last post was very contradictory. Yet, you seem to be pretty adamant about what you believe. This is why I think any conversation or debate about race would just be a clusterfuck. It wouldn't be about trying to figure anything out. At best, it would just be saying what you've always felt, not coming to any realizations or understandings and, possibly, a little gratification when someone qft's you.
i think you should go back and reread my post i didnt say it was soley attributed to racism I said ON SOME LEVEL...and yes it is do a little research on the psychological studies done in this area and you will see that on some level racism plays a role in a large percentage of our decisions even though we may not know it...This is what needs to brought to ppls attention...and you sir are a prime example of why

Electing a black president doesn't mean there's no racism, LOL! That's like saying Jerry Seinfeld getting a show means people should STFU about the Holocaust.

It's not that there isn't any racism, but there are a lot less people racist against blacks than blacks would like to believe, especially since it wasn't just the black population that got Barry elected.  BTW, I never hear Jews outright bitching about their past the way blacks do.  Then again, you aren't racist unless you hate blacks so all other races shouldn't even worry about it.  If you are an American, you are only racist if you make negative comments about an American who is black.

The sooner ANYONE stops playing the victim and works hard for what they want, the sooner we can stop bringing race into every decision in this country.

Actually, you should probably re-read my post. I addressed all of this, quite clearly. You seem to have misinterpreted it.

What that would mean is that this whole mess was staged by Gates to garner attention and book sales.  I would not be surprised either.

I have no problem with that.  Is it greedy and slimy?  Yes.  But that is captilism, even for people who dont like it.

Why not?

Palin is going to do it and I dont blame her one bit.

I don't even think it's greedy and slimy. There are how many pages of how many threads devoted to the issue on this board? Considering his job, why shouldn't he write about it?

Im not saying no, Im just saying I would not be surprised that Gates might be a closet capitilist even though he is probably a public socialist.

I haven't read anything about him being a public socialist. He has written several other books and been a part of various documentaries, so I don't think he's a closet capitalist, either.
