the new cuts in your quads will make them look two inches bigger than if you actually put an inch on them with no cuts. you must be suffering with the diet bro!  if i wasn't such a 'hazbin' i might actually be motivated to train again,lol

  Yea  .....it's been a long road (long year lol!) lot of "obstacles" to overcome (Laura's illness etc etc)
 in the end it made us stronger better people!......been dieting for a year!  seems kinna "normal" now  lol!

  and bench......the "tatts" were cool
       in the early 1980's!

And it shows, bro. Looking better than I've ever seen you before, with major improvements in your legs. Laura looks great as always.

Not sure if you've tried 20 rep breathing squats, but they do make a difference to your leg size, thickness and muscularity. Give them a go after the contest so you improve even more for the next one. Just get into it gradually because they are absolutely brutal.

Good luck for the contest.

Here's a link that tells you about the breathing squats routine. I figured you'd improve more by working on new techniques and exercises rather than by making changes in your "stack", cause you've been at it for a while.

Don't jump in with your max weight all at once (not that you'll be able to). Start with maybe 60% or a little higher of a weight that makes you fail around 10 reps on the squat. The goal is to keep adding at least 10 or 15 lb every workout (among the other things listed in that link).

And if possible, I'd put it off until after the contest, cause it's not high volume. Last few weeks before a contest isn't the best time to do low volume or start a new routine. But your body bouncing back post contest coupled with the breathing squat routine should definitely improve your legs a lot more.

Breathing squats are torture they make a the florida inmates do 3 sets before bed ;D

Mike, I just skimmed rhrough that article and there are a couple of things worth mentioning:

1) Forget about the powerlifting stance it recommends and just use the stance you normally use that is most comfortable to you. Do it in a power rack and not using a Smith machine or anything else.

2) At least for the first 6 - 8 reps, take 3 deep breaths at the top of the movement, minimum. You need to try and fill your lungs completely. After 10 reps or so, you'll find yourself taking more than 3 breaths at the top. But always focus on them being deep breaths that fill your lungs.

3) Don't do it for more than 6 weeks like the article recommends. Take a break after that time by going back to your normal routine and maybe do another cycle a couple of months or so afterwards.

Mike, you look really good, congratulations.One thing is when your going through your mandatory poses, make your transition from one pose to the next smooth.Also throw in "cheater" poses.Like before going into a full pose, flex the muscle then lock down the pose.Always make your routine and posing look smooth and effortless.I always tell people try to pose at least 15-30 minutes a day,for practice, and to bring out muscle detail.If you pose for 30 minutes its like running 5 miles.
