Advanced naturals ought to train less frequently?
« on: August 04, 2009, 02:29:39 PM »
Hmmm where did I read this? I forget, but anyway...

I remember reading in one bodybuilding book that natural bodybuilders who have been training for several years and have hit a general plateau in their progress should train each body part with less frequency while maintaining high intensity.

One of the example workouts they gave had each body part being trained directly approximately every 2 weeks.

Is this balderdash?

I already maintain a routine which targets each body part every 2 weeks, but not because I consider myself an "advanced natural". Rather, I like this approach for me personally because I can maintain my intensity with the weights while adding a good amount of cardio throughout the week. Also, I have a physically demanding job which burns lots of calories so for me I always considered each body part every 14 days to be excellent. However, I didn't know some bodybuilding theorists considered this optimal for an "advanced natural".

Thoughts?

"balderdash"?  I think you should watch that foul mouth of yours.  Were you raised in the ghetto?

I would do a priority body part 2-3 times a week, perhaps 2 parts like that at a time and the rest once a week.

I train every body part twice a week, I think it all has to do with nutrition, if your getting enough calories you should be good.

If you natural you should train a muscle more then once a weak.,.....If you do your and idiot.
For chest do 10-12 sets top, back 12 tops, legs 12 sets, tops,Shoulders, 12 sets tops, biceps, 6-8 sets tops.
Also if you train natural don't train more then 45 minutes tops. After that your natural testosterone and GH levels start to decline, which will lead to the release of cortisol.
Trust me I was 250 lbs drug free, bench pressing 500 lbs.
I couldn't get past 228lbs until I trained only once a week. When I trained a muscle twice per week my body got stuck at 225-228lbs.After changing my routine from to training a muscle once a week, my weight shot up very rapidly.
In 1994 I didn't my first show. When I fist started my diet, I weighed 228lbs, and went into the show at 206LBS.
I got 4th place which isn't bad for my first show, but I got so pissed, I reevaluated the way I trained.
Instead of training 6 days a week I only trained 3 days a week .Within 3 months I got my weight up to 240lbs and kept that weight for 9 months.I did a even bigger show, then the previous year.I stepped on stage at 215lbs and won the Natural International, and 2 weeks later I won the Natural Border states.
My point is, a natural bodybuilder can very easily overtrain.
In 1994 after training 9 years  I thought at 228lbs a I was a big natural, but after getting my ass wooped on stage, I woke up and  raised my standards.Ever since then I only train a body part once per week.
In 1995 I brought a bigger leaner, and better package to the stage.

I only have five years experience at consistent training but with how i lift now, i only do a body part once a week, deadlifts maybe only every other week.  It seems reasonable for the big body parts, but for arms you probably want to train once a week at least.
