It's all about fear, always has been with conservatives and Fox News. The irony is that such people spend all of their time in hysterics about imagined fears and yet they never see the real catastrophes coming.
There are so many examples.
They pushed so hard for this missile defense system in 2000 and completely ignored Bin Laden and Al Qaeda, where the real threat lay, in spite of repeated and pointed warnings by people whose specialty was terrorism.
They spend countless hours preaching about the dangers of gay marriage to the family unit, go home and treat their wives and kids like shit or ignore them completely, and then are dumbfounded when they get the "I'm leaving you" note.
They ranted continuously about their tax rate and how it robbed them while the people who benefited most from the tax cuts were quietly stealing their life savings, leveraging to the point of collapse the very institutions that hold their money, and rewarding themselves with millions in bonuses.
They sent away the national guard to help hunt down non-existent "weapons of mass destruction" in a country that has not attacked us and then watched slack jawed as a hurricane moved in and there were no nearby units they could send in to rescue people stranded by the floods.
What was their mantra in the late '90's and on into the 2000's? Deregulation. Got to get the government "out of the way" so that business can flourish. Then reality came crashing down on their unsuspecting heads: poison toys, deadly medications, salmonella and e. coli, toxic pet food, toxic credit default swaps, ponzi schemes, Enron, mining disasters.
These people scream and scream about a million dangers yet you can't trust them to actually prevent anything. They only seem to react to reality after they get smacked upside the head by it. The reason is that they are politically motivated rather than being motivated by a need to govern well.
