New NPC rule to eliminate 1 competitor winning 2 pro cards
« on: August 04, 2009, 08:39:14 PM »
Rule for events where one competitor could win two pro cards due to crossovers.
(NPC Masters Nationals and IFBB North American Championships)

When an event that is a pro-qualifier, such as the NPC MASTERS NATIONALS and the IFBB NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS, has the possibility of the same competitor winning two Divisions, and also two pro cards, the pro card that is awarded last in the Schedule of Events will be awarded to the second-highest placing in the Overall judging of the last judged Division.

For example, at the NPC MASTERS NATIONALS, if a competitor wins the Overall of the Mens Over 50 Division he is awarded an IFBB pro card. If the same competitor wins the Overall of the Mens Over 40 Division, the pro card in the Mens Over 40 Division, which is judged after the Mens Over 50 Division, will go to the second highest placing competitor in the Overall judging of the Mens Over 40 Division.

Can you lose your procard (in the IFBB)? And how?

I don't think so.

In other sports if you do something illegal or heinous you get booted. Just like a government job or any job/profession.

It's a different ball of wax in the IFBB. Hell, I bet the IFBB still sends a 'pro card renewal application' to Craig and Kelly's new place of residence looking for their $120 a year or whatever it is.

The best part... an IFBB 'pro card' looks like a Monopoly card. Literally it's a blue piece of paper with the IFBB symbol on it. It isn't laminated or anything.

It is a different ball of wax, in the IFBB you dont derive a check from the company as is the case in other pro sports....which is why they can do that.

What difference is it what the card looks like?

Yes - it was an issue. You can compete in more than one type (aka novice, masters, open), and thus, if you are that good, you can win both, which is what happened.  This way, you have more than just one winner, not depriving another person of a coveted pro card.

Thanks go to NPC President Jim Manion for changing the rule to address this situation that arose at the 2008 IFBB NORTH AMERICA in the Men’s Division and the 2009 NPC MASTERS NATIONALS in the Women’s Bodybuilding Division.

The athletes are still permitted to win the Overall titles of the second Division they compete in but the pro card will go to the second placing competitor in the Overall judging.

I’m glad to see this recent change and props to the NPC for taking action on it.

Gotta be honest....never seen the point of allowing multiple classes to a competitor at a National show.

There is a reason we have classes....to pick one.

Masters and Open.... if you are over 40, why not...

Because you're either good enough for the open, and you take your chances....or you compete against those in the same boat (ie- over 40)

If there is no need for classes, then eliminate them all together

In my experiance most good Masters are good enough for the open class.

But you dont know when you are signing up...

If you are over 40, you want to be the best in the Masters Catagory, and see how well you do in the Open class. Sometimes, things work out for the best, but you don't know if it will.

It normally does not happen that the Masters competitor also wins the Open, but it has this year.
