He was Canada's top pro in 2003 at the relatively young age of 25 which is perhaps equivalent of top five in his class at a more competitive show like the US Nationals.  But given the strengths you listed, I thought he could do very well too.  Perhaps he maxed out early or didn't have the desire to take it to a higher level.
