GM's new "VOLT": 230 miles per gallon

CNBC detailing GM's new car release.

This car will cost $40,000.  You'll need to buy gas once a month (or less).  Worth it?

So what happens when you want to go on a long drive and a couple hundred miles away you are low on energy.  Where can you pull over and "fill up"?  Will you have to find a stop to plug it in and wait 8 hours for a charge?

So much money spent on the development of this car, it is rediculous, part of the reason why GM went bankrupt, they allocated billions of dollars for this car's research. They were trying not to duplicate the failed EV1 experiment.

All bullshit claims.

So let's say the car is driven 50 miles in a day. For the first 40 miles, no gas is used and during the last 10 miles, 0.2 gallons are used. That's the equivalent of 250 miles per gallon. But, if the driver continues on to 80 miles, total fuel economy would drop to about 100 mpg. And if the driver goes 300 miles, the fuel economy would be just 62.5 mpg.

Pretty good fuel economy even at 300 miles.

It is but the original claim of 230 MPG is a lie, unless you can and will drive less than forty miles per day.

Looks like a decent enough car to me - even if the figures about it's fuel consumption sound a tad exaggerated.

It costs billions of dollars to introduce any new model , nothing new .

the main problem with the route they're taking is:

1. the batteries don't hold power in the winter (we all know what happens when a battery's left out in the cold) - this is the main reason for the delay so far.."as soon as we can figure out how our battery can hold power, we're all set"...guess what, they won't figure it out, it's a flawed technology (to power a car at least)
2. it won't have any "power", meaning you'll feel like you're driving a toaster
3. most people to whom gas money is a hurt in the pocket don't have money to blow on a 40k car anyways, and those who can blow 40 k on a car aren't going to starve because of gas prices.

Nice car - not rare but not common. Good performance etc

I want a unique car dont want to be driving around in a Ford focus/VW golf/passat/bora BMW 3 series like every other wanker.

Loved that car since i was a kid
