Anderson Silva wants to stay at 205
« on: August 11, 2009, 11:37:27 AM »
Whats next for Anderson Silva? That is the million dollar or perhaps multi-million dollar question.

After moving up in weight and dismantling No. 3 ranked light heavyweight Forrest Griffin at UFC 101 on Saturday night, it was all but a foregone conclusion that he would drop back down to 185 pounds to defend his middleweight belt.

I think his next fight is at 185 pounds, probably against Dan Henderson, said UFC President Dana White at the post-fight press conference. I think we're gonna do him and Dan again. And then, I don't know. He goes back to 205. He could do anything.

And do anything could be coming a lot sooner than even White had anticipated.

Yahoo! Sports Dan Wetzel reported that following the fight, in the wee hours of morning, Silvas manager, Ed Soares, approached White with an unexpected proposition. That proposition being Anderson Silva forego defending his middleweight title to make a permanent move up to light heavyweight.

Id let him, White later told Wetzel. Wed put (the middleweight title) up for grabs.

No word yet out of Octagon Central, but its an interesting proposition with blockbuster fights written all over it. While Silva is running out of options at middleweight, Rashad Evans, Quinton Jackson, Mauricio Shogun Rua, or the returning Tito Ortiz await at 205. And though Silva discounts ever fighting him, there is also current champion and Silva teammate Lyoto Machida.

With his win over Griffin, Silva took one more step in proving White correct. He's the most talented fighter in the world. He's pound-for-pound the best in the world. He proved tonight, not only that he's that, but he can dominate in two different weight divisions.

It now sounds as if he wants to be done in one of those two weight classes, perhaps enjoying the added power that accompanies the added bulk at 205.

If Silva and the UFC brass do decide to put the middleweight title up for grabs, Silva will likely have to let his words of solidarity fall by the wayside.

Lyoto's my friend, he's my brother, and there is no way that fight will happen, he declared at the press conference.

But if he moves up and both keep winning, an eventual collision would be inevitable.

If Anderson gets to that point where he starts taking out 205-pounders, I'll make that fight, White stated just as emphatically. I promise you, I'll make that fight.

how so?  Any light heavy fight match-up with Silva will make loads of money for the ufc.

Regardless, isn't Hendo next in line?  ugh...

Whoever wrote this, get it right:  UFC does not equal the world.

The best is Fedor, and he ain't in the UFC.

Some people just fall hook, line, and sinker for whatever White says.

He said he wanted to become a LHW immediately and that he would not defend against Henderson.  I'm sure Dana realizes that Silva's worth more money as a 205er than as a MW.  If he loses to Henderson at MW by some fluke, his reputation will take a blow. If he loses to a premier 205er, the press will cut him some slack.  I want to see him fight Henderson again because it will be a test of Henderson's nerve.

I think you are spot on.

Shogun will be a big underdog with the punters if fighting Machida - maybe even as high as 3.00. But I think he has at least a 50% chance at winning that fight.

50% chance he will be able to land one punch on Machida perhaps.

Rua's lost to Griffin.. and Babalu.  I doubt he's gonna fair well against Machida

He's only got three fights left on his contact so after that he's gone, don't forget.

Have you seen that the man has beaten Rampage, Arona, Overeem, Little Nog, Liddel, etc.?

It would be interesting to see two former chuteboxe fighters face off against each other especially since they aren't on good terms since Anderson left to start black House with Nog

Anderson Vs Rua. - make it happen Dana.

actually he beat a prime rampage. But with kicks to the head when rampage was down.Something you can't do in the UFC.In all honesty Rampage is overrated anyway. And yea he beat a Liddell that most anyone could beat at this point.Hell he barely beat mark coleman.Had coleman not did his signature gas out in the third rd it might have gone different.

bottom line Machida wins this fight.I could list his victories as well...A prime Rich franklin, tito ortiz, rashad evens, thiago silva,Bj penn, stephan bonner, just to name a few.

Big L Dawg has spoken the correct.  Page is much better now, and fights better in the cage versus the ring.  Machida beats Shogun.

lol Shogun is going to get abused

He barely eeked out a victory against an ancient Mark Coleman and he beat an amazingly old and out of shape Lidell.

Machida on the other hand made an undefeated Rashad Evans look like a punching bag made out of cotton candy.

Machida may lose one day, but it sure as hell aint going to be against Shogun.

Page was passed his prime  ???

Page abused an "in his prime" Chuck in Pride and has even stated that the best fighter he ever fought was Shogun.

It's funny how, according to most, Chuck was going to kill Shogun before his fight and now Chuck is a can since he lost to him.

The only reason, IMO, that Shogun lost to Forrest and had trouble with Coleman, who in his last fight showed maybe he still has a bit left, was because of the TWO serious knee injuries he had suffered and could not train cardio like he used to. If his cardio is back, I would give Shogun a pretty good chance to beat Machida.

The next UFC has Couture vs Nogueira as the HW card. A 46 year old vs a guy Fedor has beaten twice.

How do you rate this in comparison with your above statement?

LOL, we all know the UFC's heavyweight division is a joke..but they do have the deepest light heavy and midleweight divisions anywhere.. pretty good lightweight div also.
