Anyone earning a salary these days is expendable, no matter the job prestige. I work in sales and earn 100% commission with no base salary. Nobody pays for my seat so I don't have to look over my shoulder. But I'm thankful that I'm good at what I do so that it enables me to sustain a career. Others obviously aern't so lucky. I had a buddy get laid off recently from Fidelity Investments in Boston, MA. Worked there for six years and earned a solid $175,000 annual base salary. Now he has no job and two little kids. In addition, finding work in the finance/money field and staying there is very challenging these days.
Scary times these days. A lot of unhappy people in the United States right now.
