Carville: Let GOP kill health care -- then run against them
« on: August 16, 2009, 09:17:57 PM »
He makes a good point...
One-sixth of Americans don't have health insurance.  Obama and Dems could then point at Repubs and say "this man took away YOUR free coverage..."

Democratic Party strategist James Carville offered up a new strategy for Democrats to follow in their battle to reform health care: Let the GOP defeat it, then defeat the GOP at the ballot box.

At a roundtable discussion with Republican consultant Mary Matalin and host John King on CNN's State of the Union, Carville argued that if the Democrats can come up with an agreement that is supported by most Democratic members of Congress, they should let the GOP filibuster it, thereby killing health care reform and effectively painting the Republicans as being the party that opposed fixing the system.

That, Carville implied, would backfire on the GOP in upcoming elections.

"Put a bill out there, make them filibuster it," Carville said. "Make them be what they are — the party of no. ... And you know what? Run on it. Let them kill it. Let them kill it with the interest group money, then run against them. That's what we ought to do."

Tony - this country gives out free handouts left and right.  We give oil companies tax credits, we subsidize farmers, we throw money all over the planet (sometime in duffel bags with cash).    I'm not saying any of that it good.  Just saying we do it

agreed this is also one of my problems with obamas healthcare plan, he always cites the profits of the insurance companies yada yada yada bullshit.

If he really wants to make a difference in everyones life and the economy go afte the oil companies, regulate and rule them to death and create lower prices there that would be much more productive imho then trying to overhaul healthcare.

you do that, and you think 4 dollars at the pump was bad, just wait...that is a implausible idea.

The oil companies are powerful, way too powerful, anybody that has come up with independant inventions, research, the Oil compaies have bought out...But what is happening is that due to hybrids, their power is now waning a little bit, because car companies are seeing that hybrids/flybrids are the future...

240 - you are quickly going into moonbat territory.  I know you have to CYA for all the shilling you do for Obama, but this is just disgraceful.  Its another example of incompetence by Obama that we warned against and his blaming everyone for every problem is not going to cut the mustard.

Obama and Pelosi try to ram a radical idiotic plan down everyones' throat.  They have the Congress and WH and want to blame the GOP???

Give me a freaking break.

57% think the Stimulus bill is a failure, most are against cap & tax, cash for clunkers is a mess, most are against GM bailout and this disaster, and you think it is good strategy to blame the GOP????

I'm not saying it's morally right or wrong.  I'm saying POLITICALLY, it would make sense to balme the repubs if health care reform fails.

Unless of course, you think the repubs won't be blaming the dems if it fails? ???

Politically its not going to work.  Moderates and indes through out the republicans for Obama could get crap done.  Hes got 60 votes and a huge majority in the house.

yeah, i see valid points here on why it wouldn't work.

Still, there are a very-much-growing percent of americans who believe "Everybody owes me" who were too lazy to vote even in 2008... who might come out to vote Obama in 2012 because they want health care.  WIll it be enough to offset the old people (many mccain voters already) who are pissed because they don't want to see young people in their clinics?  Dunno

People are now seeing the real Obama, and are starting to realize that he is not the "hope and change" he pretended to be.

60% of people are against "Obama's health care package"

However, 60% of them support it when polled and asked details.  "Do you think X, do you think Y, do you think Z?"

Which means if Obama can paint these points as his own plan, he may get public support.

He's only completed what, 15% of his term?  A lot can happen in 3.5 years to get people behind him again.

Third, how does the GOP filibuster anything when the Dems have their beloved supermajority?

It's a classic case of Dems doing what they do best: BLAMING SOMEONE ELSE FOR THEIR SCREW-UPS.

Here is the problem 240 - the mid term elections are going to happen next year and all of the congress people are going to read the tea leaves and do what they have to do to get relected.

Many dems rode a wave of Obama to get their seat, but are going to lose in the mid terms because the usual voter wont be showing up.  only the determined voters show up ni the midterms and they are going to trounce the dems for their insanity.

240 - you read this entire situation dead wrong from the stimulus on and still dont get it.

i agree dems are going to lose some seats in 2010, as repubs will be motivated and dems voters will not.

I'm not grading his performance or trying to ascertain what's right/wrong... i'm just saying politically, blaming/crediting repubs for health care failing (if it does) may work with some voters.

Those voters are already dems.

However, Obama already said that he is responaible now so blaming everyone else ala Ray Nagin wont work anymore.

you seem to refuse to realize that the independents are turning against obama and his agenda as well. Its not simply that the reps are more active its that everyone is more active against his agenda...

Id definitly like to see the link to that poll

i agree.  I talk to a few diehard obama voters and while they don't know much about politics, they say "obama is trying to control us, what we drive, who we use for a doctor, etc"

I'm talking people with zilch clue about politics.  They manage to pick that up, which obama can't be liking.

Still, I think this type of voter (the casual idiot voter) can be swayed by other high-profile things obama does.  Will they care about his controlling way if he cures swine flu while parading Bin laden's head on a stick in Times Square?  probably not.

Exactly 240!  Obama's idea was to cram all this radical nonsense down our throats thinking no one would pay attention.  He guessed wrong and his garbage is out there for all to see.

He has managed to piss off almost everyone with only 7 months of taking office.  He is boxing himself into a corner where he will be left with no one to work with since netiher the right or left trust him on anything.

my point is what it has always been.  Will they still be pissed of in 18 months?  Or will some obama appearance on Idol or Dancing with the stars have them saying "I love that guy, i really do"....

Things change so fast today.  Bush was loved in 2002, hated in 2004.  I think obama will do all the lib damage he can this year, then move center and be the cool guy when elections come.  Isn't that how you'd do it, if you wanted to install your agenda and sitll win re-election?
