from the incoming president of the canadian medical association

Dr. Anne Doig, the incoming president of the Canadian Medical Association, said her country’s health care system is “sick” and “imploding,”

So you're telling me there are people in the USA over the age of 65 who never worked a day in their life, who are enjoying FREE health care?

How is this any different from an 18 year old who has never worked, wanting the same benefits?

They enjoy it for free, while opthers have to pay for it.

Its only free to one to the recipient, but not to the payor.

my point here should be obvious.

It's not fair that a 65-year old person who didn't work a day in their life receive free health care.

Essentially, you're saying "If you live long enough, even if you don't work, we'll cover you!"

That's not fair at all.  Obama simply wants to lower the age of free welfare handout coverage.

Why aren't you all mad that old people who never worked a single day are receiving free health care with your tax dollars?

I believe you or your spouse have to pay in for at least 10 years to be eligible for Medicare

240 - read about medicaid and the fraud that goes into people hiding assets so the govt pays for nursing home care.  you have no idea what a scam is going on in that area.

What if there's a single man or woman, who never married and never worked a day in his/her life.

He/she turns 65, and needs health care.  Who pays for it?

do you know anyone like that?

It doesn't appear that they would be eligible for Medicare:

from Wiki:

In general, individuals are eligible for Medicare if:

They are 65 years or older and U.S. citizens or have been permanent legal residents for 5 continuous years, and they or their spouse has paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years.

or

They are under 65, disabled, and have been receiving either Social Security benefits or the Railroad Retirement Board disability benefits for at least 24 months from date of entitlement (first disability payment).

or

They get continuing dialysis for end stage renal disease or need a kidney transplant.

or

They are eligible for Social Security Disability Insurance and have amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease).
The 24 month exclusion means that people who become disabled must wait 2 years before receiving government medical insurance, unless they have one of the listed diseases or they are eligible for Medicaid.

Many beneficiaries are dual-eligible. This means they qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid. In some states for those making below a certain income, Medicaid will pay the beneficiaries' Part B premium for them (most beneficiaries have worked long enough and have no Part A premium), and also pay for any drugs that are not covered by Part D.

In 2007, Medicare provided health care coverage for 43 million Americans, making it the largest single health care payer in the nation.[6] Enrollment is expected to reach 77 million by 2031, when the baby boom generation is fully enrolled.[7]

MEDICARE IS NOT FREE  !!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you did not work enough and qualify for it ( by paying for it )  then you have to pay $$ for medicare.

If you are poor,  you get Medicaid (have less than 25,000 of assets, and earn 125 % below poverty level

Are the standards equal?  Or is age discrimination in play?

bump for somebody who should really be under their parents health care plan...you think the smaller number of seniors that recieve health care without paying in justifies the MILLIONS of ppl who you feel should get health care even though there are viable options out there for them too?

I think anything more than ZERO is unacceptable.

I think if you're going to keep healthcare away from the undeserving, you do it to those of every age.

Either give free helath care to every american, or to no americans.  If you don't work, tough shit.

You've spread disinfo through this entire thread, yet you get mad when other people do it.

I won't even stoop to arguing with you like the other people in this thread.

What you're saying is incorrect and you and I both know it.

I'm the first to admit I'm more confused by the health care topic than anyone else here.

I've yet to hear the topic explained perfectly in 5 sentences or less (my attention span)
