Rubber coated dumbells drying out?

I have rubber coated dumbbells I've had for a few years now and noticed they are turning kinda white or looking like they are dried out.  I might try washing them to see if this helps or possibly Armorall?  Anyone else run into this or know a fix?

yes, get tire polish at an auto parts store.
