nope, but they had to generate interest and sell tickets for the olympia that year and it worked like a charm.

even bodybuilding.com says this (and they know more than you). although they say the IFBB should have "picked a different show" to pull this stunt. maybe they should have..

oh, and as far as second tier pro's owning Mr. Olympia's, well, your hero started the trend long ago buddy:

This one is very rare as it has never been published in a bodybuilding magazine. I can ascertain that since I took the picture myself in Nov/08.

its easy to see they are correct: the IFBB pulled a stunt for their olympia that year and it was successful. it generated a lot of buzz, tickets sales and interest.

I was there and Ronnies conditioning was a couple weeks out. He thought he could make a quick trip back to New Orleans and pick up 100,000 for first place. BTW Ronnie was alot heavier than 240. He was big just not ripped.

yet again, you miss the whole point. the expert testimony is corroborated (do you two morons even know the meaning of that word?) by the pics.

Rubbish. You can have the Antichrist himself on stage in a contest and no one outside of the few who follow bodybuilding to the extent of watching contests would care. The handful of bodybuilding mags always hype the shit out of every bodybuilder, supplement, contest and what have you, but it doesn't make any major difference.

2002 was a lucky year for Ronnie - he almost lost the Olympia, where he looked like garbage compared to his peak form and he lost the SOS fair and square. He was lucky he placed above Chris Cormier. Sorry Hulkster, but such is the way things are.

nonsense. whether or not it worked or not makes no difference.

the IFBB still tried to do this to generate buzz. to get people talking.

like it or not bodybuilding is a business. and that business involves marketing, selling tickets etc.

just because it is a "cult" in a sense does not mean that they didn't try and do what they did.
