This is true, legal or not, there is zero way in hell they would have been ok with anyone armed at a Bush Rally.  For fuck sake they were detaining people for shouting Cheney Sucks at President Cheney.

The SS would have done something about it if it were against the law.

telling Cheney he sucks isn't against the law either.  That didn't stop them from fucking with the guy.  Seriously, you think they wouldn't have done anything if libs started showing up with guns where Bush was at?

Two people who were removed from a speech by President Bush in March have filed a federal lawsuit alleging they were ejected from the event in violation of their First Amendment rights.

Leslie Weise and Alex Young, both of Colorado, claim they were asked to leave a March 21 speech by Bush on Social Security at the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum because of a policy that prohibited anyone from attending the event if they held a viewpoint contrary to the president's

Two Bowdoin students were ejected from President Bush's campaign appearance in Bangor yesterday on suspicion that they planned to protest inside the event. Another Bowdoin student, who worked at the event, was involved in the removal.

Bree Dallinga '06, co-president of the Bowdoin College Democrats, and Ashley Cusick '05, both self-described liberals, said they planned to attend the event to observe and possibly protest by wearing anti-Bush t-shirts.

Bill was standing in a crowd of pro-Bush people who were standing along the street where Bush's motorcade would pass. The Bush backers had all sorts of Hooray George-type signs. Those were totally okey-dokey with the Secret Service, but Neel's...well, it simply had to be removed.

At Bill's trial, a Pittsburgh detective testified that the Secret Service had instructed local police to confine "people that were making a statement pretty much against the President and his views."

http://www.thenation.com/doc/20040816/hightower

About 150 sign-toting protesters were shunted off to a zone where they could not be seen from the street, and--get ready to spin in your grave, Jimmy Madison--the media were not allowed to talk to them, and protesters were not allowed out of the protest zone to talk to the media.

Brett Bursey. He committed the crime of holding up a No War for Oil sign when sensitive George visited Columbia, South Carolina, last year. Standing amid a sea of pro-Bush signs in a public area, Bursey was commanded by local police to remove himself forthwith to the FSZ half a mile away from the action

Hugo:

I think that the police and SS are trying to avoid a Ruby Ridge or Waco situation and dont want to play into the hands of these fools with guns.

To me, its ridiculous that anyone would show up with a gun to a political protest like this.

Worse, it distracts from the protest itself.

its BS all the way around on both sides is bush/mccain's ppl asking ppl to leave really any different then obama stacking town halls with supporters? not really

I agree these ppl with guns are just being stupid and looking to rile up just this kind of response.

Heres a good question since we like to compare bush to obama though.

What would have happend if bush had sat in a church with racist overtones for 20 yrs? you guys think he still would have been elected president even if he stated he had never heard anything like that in his 20 yrs of attending that church?
