its even worse when one considers the symbolic nature of the WTC attacks/remaining Hole in the ground in the heart of new york.

HH6 - thanks for pointing out the 1993 WTC bombing.  Ramzi Yusef said the goal was 2ook dead and he thought on the low side it would have been 40k dead if they could bring down the towers in 1993. 

The only reason we did not lose 40k people on 9/11/2001 was the following:

1.  Time of day. 
2.  Height of the attack on the upper floors
3.  Length of time the buildings stood before they collapsed. 


Change any of those factors and we could have easily lost 25- 75k people.
