Maybe the scholarships that rescued them from their little podunk towns are more important to them than 'sending a message'.

He keeps his scholarship and continues practicing with the team, but it's gotta be a 6-game suspension and he doesn't travel. 

As an athlete, the worst feeling in the world is having to watch your teammates departing on the bus without you.

Sounds about fair i guess. I'm an Aussie, so i don't know much about NFLor their average suspensions, but that doesn't sound too major. There was an incident here in an AFL match where a guy threw a bit of a sucker punch. He got 8 weeks, but AFL is for soft cocks.  ;D
