The Right Wing Is Terrified Of Obama Speaking To Their Children
« on: September 04, 2009, 01:56:30 PM »

This is the face of the modern Republican party. This insane shit is now "mainstream" conservatism.I'm outraged personally that he's doing this, after I've spent so many years trying to encourage my kids to drop out of school.   ;D

he's speaking to them about not blaming shit on their situation, and working their way out of tough times.

That's a great message.  Right-wing folks are gonna complain no matter what.  They were silent when Bush spoke to kids, tho...

The I serve speech is complete bullshit..the message of service and not dropping out..fine, more so if the President decides to bring it to kids but the manner in which it was filmed, packaged and the stuff they wanted kids to do....sorry dude, thats wrong and the White House got the message.

As usual, the far left and right are going on their own tangents in this arguement.

What concerns many people are the federally generated lesson plans around the talk.  Also, "service to Obama", "what will you do for Obama", and the potential of bringing politics and speficic political agendas into the classroom.  We MUST not allow that.  If the president is going to give kids a motivational speech on education and acheivement, I am all for it.  Great idea.  However, the administration puts in their little language that suggests collectivism with undertones of politics.  When they ask "what are you going to do to help Obama" they are over the line.  That encourages kids and teachers to repeat administrative agendas.  Kids are extremely impressionable and most teachers are liberal.  There needs to be solid boundries.

Several things proposed by this administration seem to suggest we all need the government's help.  Its as if they are talking to a poor community who needs a leader to follow, specific direction, more education, family support, etc...but they are talking to the nation.

I agree.  He shouldn't have suggested a lesson plan at all.  I don't have a problem with him giving a motivational speech, but don't bring partisan politics into the classroom of little kids.

Prior to the president's in-school speech to students on September 8th, the Whitehouse has encouraged students to read biographies about Obama. Really...?

Those who read "Dreams From My Father" will learn that the young Obama thoroughly enjoyed marijuana, that he bought and used cocaine when he could afford it (not explaining where the money came from...), that his basketball coach was an "ignorant guy," and on the subject of higher education, the importance the president placed on choosing Marxist college professors.

so mons, you ignore commenting on the reasonable post where I stated reasons for some not being comfortable with this situation and you posted support for some outrageous party line cartoon.  What do you think about the specific lesson plans and asking kids "what are you going to do for Obama".  "How can you be of service to Obama".  You don't have issues with that?  Do you see how reasonable parents and others could?  Sometimes you have to look fast the far right and far left perspectives and don't get caught up in the us vs them.  Few would have complained if these lesson plans weren't handed down.

When unemployment was at 4-5% we had a situation where employers pretty much had to employ the bottom of the labor pool, in many cases the "unemployable".  In essence the 4-5% were people who were choosing not to work.

People who have those options to choose right now, aren't likely aren't going to change.  If you want long term change, impact children.

technically even when we have around 100% employment we still have 4 or 5% unemployed

I agree with impacting the children though but dont bring your bleeding heart to me about shit like obama does when ppl have options out there for them to utilize.

You want to laugh Tony?  I remember at the height of the housing boom I was arguing with a client about the need to deport illegals since the housing craze was bound to end and we would be stuck with millions of uneducated peasants with no work.  He said we need them to do the jobs that anmericans wont do etc etc.

He does not argue with me anymore about these issues.  The UE will keep going up for a while at least until we get something done on illegal immigration.

Don't come in here with your logical, non-radical views.  We're either far-right religious zealots or far-left hippy commies.

I don't understand what you mean.  People always have options, it that they don't chose to pursue them because they are scared, lazy, or what ever.

seriously.

If the leader of this nation encourages study and hardwork to achieve success, I am all for for.

Reading "My Pet Goat" and children get a positive message, I am all for it.
Speaking on "hard work, stay in school, personal responsibility"

Get your heads out of your ass.

The POTUS in this situation ALWAYS presents an encouraging message.
The message is "Keep Your Head Up"

Anyone who has trouble with the "Leader of the free world" encouraging todays' youth to empower itself needs a lesson in recent American History.
