i have no problem with the president talking to school children as far as i know presidents have been doing this for ages now. You guys have to admit though that obama likes to inject political idealogy into just about every aspect of any speech he gives I think this is why there is concern. I agree though if you dont like it pull your kids out for the day take them to mcdonalds im sure they would enjoy that much more then listening to some guy who they really could care less about talk.

witht he amt of scrutiny this speech has, i'm guessing it's the most vanilla 'work hard, stay in school' speech in history.

that being said, winers on the far-right will still sqwak about they not wanting their kids learning about that stuff.

the prob with this is that we don't know what are serious concerns we should have with obama, and what are just drama queen pissy moments.

They give the same voracity to cap/trade as they do to a positive motivational speech to some little kids who probably won't be paying attention anyway.  Independents realize 'that speech wasn't so bad - why did FOX and friends cry so much about it?"

They lose their ability to have any impact by melting over every single thing.

Not really.  They backed off the original plan of trying to get kids to write something of a political nature.  To that extent, the uproar worked.  He should be doing exactly what Gingrich said:  encourage kids to stay in school, study hard, etc.  Nothing wrong with that.

I forget exactly what they requested, but it something like have the kids give the president ideas about how to better do his job.  Something like that.

With politics and personalities involved completely out of the picture, nothing is wrong with that.  But when a partisan is making the request, the cynic will question whether he is trying to create little disciples.  They apparently realized how their lesson plan could be misconstrued and backed off.
