Youth soccer league FAIL. Am I wrong here?
« on: September 06, 2009, 08:00:43 AM »

The short version:

The teams will play one game on each of the next several Saturdays.

Then there will be a bye week for everyone.

During that week, the teams will be 'seeded', and for the remainder of the season, the good teams will only play other good teams and the bad teams will only play other bad teams.

The league's rationale: If boys and girls are on teams that always get beat down, then they won't want to play soccer anymore.

My belief: If you don't like losing, get better.

Am I wrong to oppose the league's plan?

They should play against teams that are close to their level, like adults do.

But how much differential can there be in a U8 league?

Youth soccer in America is a joke.  The toolbags that run it would prefer that all games end in a tie and that all the players, regardless of talent or how hard they work at practice, get the exact same playing time.  Yeah, those are such valuable lessons to teach the youth.... ::)

Very true....I was just trying to be polite to the less athletic among us who had to play soccer growing up instead of real sports.

I think the U6 division doesn't keep score, but this is my kid's first year playing and starting in the U8s, so they're playing for keeps...as it should be.

Exactly.  If kids just want to play grab-ass, take them to the park or let them play in school.  Organized sports is for keeps....I can still remember games from that time.  Of course I was lucky enough to have good coaches who wanted to dominate.  ;D

In the US the PC police rule youth soccer. Greatly supported by the "Soccer Moms", who some of the coaches nail on a regular bases. True some soccer games do not even keep score, but the coaches do with the mom's.. Every kid that has a hard time walking and chewing gum at the same time gets to "play" in a match. Next they will be rolling kids on the field in wheel chairs and say they are much as part of the game as anyone else. Actually some of the girls are more aggressive and better players than the boys. So America is raising a generation of pussie whipped little boys. Growing into pussie whipped men.

Pop Warner and other football leagues are different. As is Little League baseball (props to Chula Juana for their championship this year)

It's soccer, what do you expect.
If they don't coddle the players there won't be a league.  Anyone in the area that doesn't walk like Peg Bundy is already playing baseball.

QFT

Through the coaches, they have formally asked everyone - players, coaches, parents, etc. - to cheer whenever there is a score, regardless of which team scores.

In your LIFE, can you ever imagine CHEERING a score by an opponent during a game?  I've seen tennis players applaud an opponent's brilliant shot  a few times, but never anywhere else.  Ok yeah, you pat an opponent on the head in basketball or football after a great play, but stopping to cheer?  Are you kidding me??
