« on: September 10, 2009, 09:30:17 AM »
OK folks I'm a huge movie buff & have decided to start reviewing what I watch.I'll start with more recently viewed movies but will eventually when I got time go back & review some classics & must see movies...Will be grading on a scale from 1 to 100.1 being worthless,50 being average,100 being an instant classic....

District 9?

nope bro haven't seen it.I went to see Inglorious bastards instead...Although I gotta tell you I would still recommend district 9 from the reviews & talking to friends.I believe it is a movie with substance that deals with political & social Issie's.Not just your average mindless action movie.

OK then Inglorious bastards...great film but it's no pulp fiction.the dialogue in this movie is excellent and there are scenes that should have you on the edge of your seat..Plus alot of humorous situations to boot.Pitt is excellent and the German commander(can't remember his name)is even better....an 80/100

ha ha exactly...thats why I decided on this scale it gives you more wiggle room.It takes a damn epic movie to hit the 90+ range though....so anything in the 70's or 80's are considered a good to very good movie.

Could you review "Inferno of Torture"
thanks bro :)

Synopsis
In Nineteenth Century Japan, various women are forced into prostitution in a particular brothel. There, they are raped, tortured, and abused, and the body of each is covered with elaborate tattoos. The artists creating these, meanwhile, participate in a competition to display their skills, which is to be judged by the Shogun. Unfortunately, rivalries amongst these men, together with the greed and ambitions of the owners of the brothel, lead to murders, attempts to sell women into sexual slavery, and other crimes besides these.

Analysis
Teruo Ishii's Inferno of Torture is a vicious, sometimes incoherent, and yet captivating film.

I will concede that the story Ishii tells is very poorly developed. Characters appear and disappear with such rapidity that the viewer is rarely able to immerse himself in their lives. The director has actually included some interesting details about these persons, such as how one woman is thrown into the brothel in order to pay the debt she owes for her ailing younger brother's medical treatments, how a particularly skilled tattoo artist loves one of the prostitutes, how another such artist, being jealous of others' greater talents, tries to outdo them by working for the panderers (though these persons retain his services only by addicting him to drugs), how the brothel owners attempt to sell women overseas with the help of a vicious white man living in Japan, and so on. Regrettably, these elements, though introduced, are never given sufficient attention. They first tantalize the viewer and then frustrate him.

Although the film's narrative is disappointing, Inferno of Torture is still thoroughly engaging. It is alive with a wild cruelty, with a deliciously nihilistic appreciation of human suffering. Over and over again, Ishii exposes the ordeals endured by one or another of the women confined in the brothel that is the focus of his movie. He shows women being suspended upside down and then flogged for the pleasure of their assailants, other women being brutally raped, yet others being tortured or mutilated, and still others being degraded in yet different ways. There is hardly an activity the film's female characters are presented as engaging in that is not lurid and exploitative. Whether they are being paraded naked in front of potential male clients, fighting amongst themselves, or being humiliated by their masters or by one another, they are constantly reduced to the most abject of conditions. Though relatively few of the scenes depicting such deeds are truly gruesome, most are harsh and a few are pretty nasty. The film's very first moments, for instance, reveal one woman being speared in her crotch and another having her head sawed off. Later scenes include depictions of a woman who, having been hung upside down, is beaten and stabbed, and who has her eyes gouged out, another woman being torn in half when the pair of trees to which her legs have been fastened, and which have been bent towards one another, are suddenly released, and a woman who, in order to escape her tormentors, hides in a coffin with a corpse, which is then placed upon a funeral pyre. The movie is enthrallingly vicious.

What is more, Inferno of Torture is always appealing visually. The director alternates between the most beautiful of locations, including rocky beaches, gorgeously decorated rooms, and courtyards thronging with well dressed noblemen, and others that are utterly grim or terrible, including filthy, crowded dungeons, markets filled with the carcasses of various sorts of animals, and corpse strewn execution grounds. Such locations are inhabited by individuals who are as lovely or as fearsome as they are. The movie is absolutely packed with gorgeous women, almost all of whom are at least partially naked throughout nearly the whole of the film, so that the elaborate, stunning tattoos that cover the body of each are continuously displayed. These, I might add, though probably not real tattoos, are genuinely lovely and are made the focus of a large portion of Inferno of Torture. Lastly, I should say that all of these places and individuals are beautifully filmed. The director shows real skill in his choices of composition, camera angles, colors, and the like. The movie really is visually arresting.

Whatever its faults, and these are considerable, Inferno of Torture is a memorable, affecting, and beautiful movie.

"Gamer"?
Leaving the theater after seeing Gamer, I truly felt as if my brain had been tossed into a meat grinder. Neveldine and Taylor, the directing team behind the Crank series is back again with an action movie that only further shows that this directing duo are the supreme rulers of the 21st century action genre. Dear god, this movie is just..........holy mother of.........indescribable . How can mere mortal words explain just how amazing this movie is? Gerard Butler plays Kable, a death row inmate wrapped up in a cruel game that has captivated the minds of the entire human race. Convicted death row inmates are given a choice in this depiction of a not-so-far-off earth future: rot in jail or take part in a game in which you must fight your way through thirty rounds of mayhem to be set free. But there's a catch.....when you are in a match, a gamer has complete control of your physical movements. It's an interesting plot that is thrown out the window in favor of massive gunfights and explosions. Seriously, watching this movie is an absolutely insane experience from start to finish; a fulfilling movie for the mind and soul.

Gamer is the movie that Michael Bay has tried for over a decade to make, and has failed miserably each and every time. Neveldine and Taylor just know exactly what action fans want to see and have succeeded in reviving the dead action genre three time out of their three directing attempts. The action scenes in this movie are simply stunning in every sense of the word. Cars do barrel rolls through the air while engulfed in flames, body parts are mangled, human corpses are thrown across the screen like rag-dolls.......it's truly a spectacle to behold. The constant action pulls viewers in thanks to being coupled with great effects and a hardcore musical score.

Another great aspect of the film is the cinematography, which is nothing short of genius. Normally, shaking the camera this violently only helps to hammer in the nails on a movie's coffin, but here, it is done so well and with such brilliant direction that it enhances the tense feelings given off throughout the movie. Sure, there is the occasional obvious green screen effect, but that's all part of the fun that Neveldine and Taylor are known for with their Crank series, which Gamer takes quite a few notes from.

Random cameos are in no short supply either in Gamer, but it's many lesser known stars such as James Roday and Maggie Lawson from Psych and Milo Ventimiglia from Heroes. Even John Leguizamo has an important role in the movie in which he performs very naturally. As far as the supporting cast is considered, Michael C. Hall and Kyra Sedgwick are both phenomenal, and despite them seeming to be odd choices for a movie such as this, the casting decisions were nothing short of excellent.

What can I possibly say that will assure that you go see Gamer in the theaters? Seriously, if you are looking for an action movie in a time when action movies tend to suck, look no further than Neveldine and Taylor's latest action masterpiece. It's an electrifying and explosive flick that is pervasively loud and violent, and that's all we action fans could ever ask for. One of the best action movies of the decade, and one of the greatest movie experiences I have ever had the pleasure to enjoy. Two thumbs up and expect to have your mind splattered across the theater walls.

This is not an L dawg review.I will do my best to provide an accurate review however this movie has me perplexed...I've searched numerous sites and it seems the average movie rating is only 5-6/10......the movie is rated R with alot of graphic violence, nudity, and sex which is right up my alley....I have heard this movie described as the best sci fyi movie nobody liked...I had little interest in seeing this movie before it's DVD release but my curiosity is now peeked....will do my own review at a later date....

I watched the first series on tv in the 80's and like this one.  Off to a really good start so I expect it will be cancelled after the first season.
