The South Carolina Republican who hurled the words "you lie" at President Barack Obama during his speech to a joint session of Congress Wednesday is now raising money off his screed at his personal website.
In a new video posted to YouTube, a deeply made-up Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) explains the "rationale" behind his anti-Obama quip, then says he's looking to pocket campaign cash.
"Last night I let my emotions get the best of me on the critical issue of health care," Wilson says, apologizing mutely.
"It was wrong, and I apologized to the president afterwards, and he has acknowledged my sincerity."
"They want to silence anyone who speaks out against it," he continues. "They made it clear they want to defeat me and pass the plan. I need your help now... Contribute to my effort to defeat the proponents of government-run health care. "
Wilson's new video may be in response to the overwhelming success his Democratic opponent has had since his outburst -- raising nearly $600,000 in a single day online.
