C'mon, man. I love a good backroom deal as much as the next guy, but do readers believe that all it takes is a good (not 'great', according to the peanut gallery) physique, blonde hair/blue eyes, and a hot wife to be propped up as a star?
Jessica Paxson Putman can stand on her own, and she is destined, maybe, for a top 7 placing at the Figure Olympia this year (in my opinion). She has her own contracts with AMI and Optimum Nutrition, just won another show, and has done well.
Peter Putman started well, everyone more in the mainstream liking his look, and had a Met-Rx contract, and a nice one at that. Now he moved on to Champion Nutrition, and between that time, picked up an AMI contract. Not bad - good business moves and decisions.
Winning a contest doesnt mean an automatic contract - you are a business. You need to market yourself, show whoever wants to give you a contract that you are worth it, and a good business decision. Awareness of the brand, what you can give to the brand, whether it is a magazine, supplement advertising, or whatever.
The problem is that his physique just isn't that good, and no way near deserving of the attention he gets. It would be like Kyle Orton getting as much attention as Tom Brady. It's insulting to everyone.
In your opinion, yet many of us are talking about Peter, and he is in the media more than many others. For me, Peter and I have our differences, a little cocky, but he is learning the business. Sort of like a new rookie, etc -
