drive one and u'll know..

Just looked in my garage...and what do you know!!!! There's a 2001 BMW in Cosmos Black, Stone Green interior, 540i with sport package. Nice little vehicle to drive, and I agree they're nice.
But I don't see the big deal in owning one, honestly. Work hard, and you can own one. I bought mine almost four years ago CPO, and that was on a rather decent but nothing special yearly salary.

I drive a shitty Vauxhall.

I don't care about cars - as long as you have a nice house then you're set.

Houses are assets - cars are merely liabilities.

Depending on where you live, homes are now also considered liabilities because of depreciative equity. And a big reason why people are walking away and letting the banks take them back.

Mine isn't - I know for a fact I've got about £50,000 equity in my house. (That's about $90,000 US).

It doesn't really depend on where you live, it's more to do with when you bought the house.

I bought about 10 years ago when houses were cheap and I've slowly chipped away at the mortgage in that time. The people who are buying houses now are suffering because they're buying at grossly inflated prices with high mortgage rates and they're not gaining much in the way of equity because if anything, the houses are now reverting back to what they're truly worth. People are finding themselves in negative equity and just walking away with huge unsecured debts.

Agreed.

Buddy of mine just had to let foreclosure happen on his place near Sacramento, CA. He bought his place after it had just been built as part of a series of homes in a neighborhood about 3 years ago. At one point he had over 100k in equity and was living the high life.
Turns out, as I was talking to him, he said he had to to move because he ended up 200k upside down.
Just prior to the market coming down, his area was a complete cash cow, and now it just tanked.

Thanks, jalepeno pants.  I might just steal that.

Cargo all the way.  Just me, dog, tools, and cigar stink.  Women love it.
