Our system sucks. I have been following politics pretty closely the last couple years. What I've noticed is the money comes from the far left and far right...so they typically don't back moderates. Who is the voice of the center? The moderate? Why are we letting political parties polarize us so much?
The media is covering less detail and focuses on more controversy. Its like entertainment. Many people have a short attention span and pay attention to extrodinary headlines, outlandish behavior, and gossip so the media caters to that. Instead of the media fact checking, holding gov officials accountable, and covering stories without bias (like real jounalists should), they focus on juicy stuff they can sensationalize.
We have talk show hosts that yell and scream, others that have disgusting insulting sarcasm.
Anytime there's something about race (as in the backlash from the Wilson outburst), the media are all over it for days. How does that help us move forward? How does that not encourage more anger on either side? Is Wilson's outbust that important that the news should be ignoring so many other important stories for a week? Its like they keep us in categories...highlight our differences so we argue and they have juicy crap to publish.
Our media and our political system has certainly lost ground over the years.
