Trix, since you are from Australia, I bet you can answer it better than some of us here in the United States. Here in the United States, you compete in the NPC, and at various NPC contests, you have a chance to turn pro, whether it is bodybuilding, figure, fitness or bikini. Simple as that.

http://www.australia-bodybuilding.com/ features a number of Australina bodybuilders and lots more information for you.

I'm pretty sure but don't quote me on this but you have to be under the height of 5'2 to even be considered  :-\ Yeah I know its messed up but doo's are da rulz in that male dominated country...There are some weird ways around it but I believe it involves race cars/and scat shots...Nothing any sane man/woman would even consider

You have to win the nationals and then you can apply for it. It is up to the executive committee of the NPFC-IFBB to decide if you are up for it. In any country it is up he national committee to decide.

We used to have a pro qualifier every Feb-March, however, after years of the winners not doing our pro show, Paul dropped it. It was originally promoted as a lead into the Aussie Pro GP.

Good luck, You can email me anytime for more info

Can the National committee that gave Mr. Lee Priest his pro card also take it away if they feel he isn't representing the country well? I'm not saying he is doing anything wrong but could they hypothetically take it away if he was SAY, shitting on glass tables with men and/or women lying really close underneath?  Confused Fan wants to know the rulz

Lee priest was never nominated for a pro card by the australian committee... he never won the overall at the ifbb nationals either.

Lee won the lightweight at the nationals in 1990 then he won the lightweight at the world qualifiers in 1991 (drug tested) then went to poland and failed the test at the worlds... took 1992 off to get bigger and went to the USA in early 1993 and was granted pro status there.

The guy who dominated the aus nationals in the early 90's was a guy named tony rossi who was like a gaspari clone but with better arms and narrower hips.

Messiah knows all about rossi but he was very good...

Having said that the aus ifbb probably acted correctly by not putting lee up for a card up until that time...

he was only a lightweight in 1991 and there were some damn good bigger bodybuilders who they put up for pro cards first.

1991 was the debut of adrian batho
1992 was the debut of terry mitsos
1993 was the debut of mick scionti who had pushed darrem charles to the wire in the light heavyweights at the 1991 worlds

the thing the aus ifbb didn't know was that those guys never improved much after they won their national titles a few years before they went to the pros whereas lee grew a LOT from 1991 to 1993 when he competed at the niagra show.

Excellent info bro...Not to beat a dead horse about Lee but do you feel that Lee's tattoo's are how do you say "childish"...I mean superman? Its too bad he didn't have the ballz to brand that into his arm...Now that would be badass..

tattoos seem to make lee and many people happy... i'd rather save the money personally... or spend it on nicer cuts of steak.

Tony wasn't the Pro Qualifier held the week after the Pro GP for the 1st few years? I thought that didn't help.

I remember when i did the Gladiator tryouts there was one guy in the 'personality stage' with me who said his goal was to turn pro and just do one show then retire.

For men's bodybuilding, to get a pro card, it is not easy - you have either the NPC USAs (3 pro cards), the NPC Nationals (7 pro cards) or the IFBB North Americans (I think 1 pro card).

Not sure in Australia, it is an overall win or just your class that you can apply for it?

I think once you get an IFBB Pro card, it is up to the IFBB to decide if you are violating the rules.

I wish that was true but it isnt. I have known somple people for years that wanted that win at those shows and the chance to turn pro.  These competitors worked hard for those wins.  Gee looked incredible, and while it looks it took only 2 weeks to get his pro card (NPC LA, then NPC USAs), he was competing 4 years earlier and more.

Come on Ron,Gee is what? 5'2,he will never place top 10 in any pro show, plus he in bent,Putnam wouldnt win top 3 in an Irish show, let alone a Brittish show,Zack Khan would be a pro 5yrs ago in America
You cannot honestly say that americans have a harder route than anyone to go pro, like Shaun Crump who just turned pro, another who is nothing at all special
