A major chain of gyms has banned the new iPod nano with camera from its locker rooms.

iPod nano with camera not welcome in locker rooms

Apple's new iPod nano sports a slim form factor that includes a video camera. The tiny size of the device has become a concern for Life Time Fitness, a company that runs 84 gyms in 19 states. As a result, the new iPod nano has been prohibited from use entirely in the facilities' locker rooms.

In a new report from the Pioneer Press, company spokesman Jason Thunstrom said it is impossible to tell whether a user is choosing a song to play or shooting a video. Bans have also been placed on camera-equipped cellphones at health clubs for years.

The company will allow exercisers to use the new iPod nano while working out, but shooting video while exercising is also prohibited.

The fifth-generation iPod nano has a total size of 1.1 cubic inches. The 8GB model ($149) can record up to 7 hours of video, while the 16GB capacity ($179) can capture 14 hours.

this is just wrong. why punish everyone why not catch and ban the perverts that are using there ipods for other things then listening to music

My belt and straps are camera-equipped, but the twink management at my gym hasn't figured that out yet.

Good idea....too bad my gym just doesn't have any hot chicks (at least not consistently) to video or shoot... :'(

The funny thing is it's not even the hot young chic's complaining, it's these fat old women in their 40's that think guys want  to take pics of them ... LOL, my buddy used to manage a gym that's who most of the complaints about camera phones came from... the hot young girls and strippers that worked out there never complained once, LOL

There is no need for a phone in the gym. Lots of serious lifters here on there phone inbetween sets.

Was about to say the same thing.. what the hell happened to privacy  ???

How can they single out Ipods though when all cell phones nowadays are equipped with cameras? They cannot realistically ban all electronic devices. People are gonna  have their phones. If somebody wants to record you bad enough they are gonna do it.

That's the thing. If you go to concerts and such, they don't want you bringing a "camera". But as you said, they are in practically everything, so of course, those who bring in their cells, have access to a camera.  ::)

So many gyms have this rule..yet how are they gonna enforce it? Search everyones bags upon entering, or Xray machines like the security line at the airport?  ::)  ...like people are gonna leave their cell phones at home while at the gym? Not gonna happen.

I guess the rule is effective in the way it prevents most people from blatantly recording/taking pictures.

If you are going to ban ipods with cameras, ban phones as well. I never take my phone into the gym area with me, and i'm sure all the other getbig CEO's could manage to be apart from their precious phone for 45 mins or so.....
