Iran Replaces The US Dollar With The Euro…And So It Begins

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has ordered the replacement of the US dollar by the euro in the country’s foreign exchange accounts.

The September 12 edict was issued following a decision by the trustees of the country’s foreign reserves, Mehr News Agency reported.

Earlier, the Islamic Republic of Iran had announced that the euro would replace the greenback in the country’s oil transactions. Iran has called on other OPEC members to ditch the sinking dollar in favor of the more credible euro.

Following the switch, the interest rate for the facilities provided from the Foreign Exchange Reserves will be reduced from12 to 5 percent.

Since being introduced by the European Union, the euro has gained popularity internationally and there are now more euros in circulation than the dollar.

The move will also help decouple Iran from the US banking system.

I can not Yea or Nay, but I can tell you it is a BAD TIME for the american dollar and economy. THe US dollar's value is based soley upon the fact that all oil transactions in the world occur with US dollars regardless of the country buying oil. If enough countries follow Irans lead the US dollar would become worlthless overnight...

The Fed is purposely devaluing (read: destroying) the dollar on purpose. Also, Iran has been trading in Euros with in its oil bourse for some time, right?

This Administration had a real chance to take a leadership role in righting the ship, instead it seems they have thrown it onto the iceberg.

Iran kept the sale of oil in euros and dollars...Now they have dropped the dollar totally.

People are not going to drop the dollar overnight... unless China does of course.

China drops the dollar, US exports become more competitive. US imports become less competitive.

China has no interest in dropping the dollar.

Their securities to the money they loaned USA are bonds. So they wouldn't be helped if the currency would go down.

A large percentage of the world trade is done in USD.

What reason would the ones holding all those dollars have to sell the currency they have and incur a huge loss?

Wars have started for less....we have very little to fear from china at this point. Why would China want the US economy to fail? They are heavily intervened. If USA falls China may be the biggest loser.

It is costing China to do business with america, becasue america borrows 3+ BILLION dollars per day from China. For China to cut off america is to cut off a liability. China has been doing business with many other nations and has been actively scouring the world to involve itself in the business of nations it has not previously: Brazil, Nigeria, Venezuela, Cuba, Canada, various African Nations, Peru, Argentina, Australia, Middle Eastern nations etc. They are already established so that if and when america collapses they will be secure with plenty of business from other nations to take up the slack.
