15 %bodyfat is the highest a "true" bodybuilder should have?
« on: September 27, 2009, 03:47:12 PM »
skim thru the current issue of was it flex or musclemag i forget, but anyway, in the editor's page, it was about how pros and amateur experienced and new bodybuilders think with fall and winter coming and presumably baggy clothes and sweats that this is the age old time for bulking up and not worrying about fat gain, just gain as much weight as possible so anyway....

the editor says that 15 percent % bodyfat is the most anyone should get up to regardless of your experience or muscle?

is this true everyone!

and if your over 15 %percent bodyfat, you need to drop the fat before you even attempt to gain muscle, size, weight even during this offseason time?

your thoughts everyone on this!

The lower your BF the better you will look.

As long as you are eating the right nutrients consistently (along with everything else) you should be able to gain mass. Getting fat just means more to diet down and potentially lose muscle in the process.

BF% means shit to me, Dorian said it best  ;) no good walking around saying you are 3% BF if you look like a pile of shit

if you want to look like a bodybuilder, why would you ever want to be higher than 15% bodyfat?

these days I don't give a shit, I know I won't compete for the next 3-4 years so even if I am 15-16% bf, it's fine for me.

I care more about strenght and size for now, I don't plan on dieting again until I am at least 260lbs at my height

I am about 230 now off-cycle, when I get back on in december I'll easily jump to 250 so it will be a good start !

I agree, but some people have to be leaner than others to look good.  Some people have more gaunt faces than others.

I never believed in the yo-yo dieting in bodybuilding, the on/off bullshit.. I've always tried to stay at around 10-12% bf while making lean gains, what's the point of bulking up and putting on 40lbs. just to drop 35 of them a few months later. Seems counterproductive to me, I'd rather look good year round and make smaller gains then look like a fat permabulker in baggy clothes for 6 months out of the year.

I prefer looking fat and big when I come off gear than staying on a diet but losing 15 lbs
