I have had several sprains myself as far as my back is concerned but i never felt i needed a back specialist. Recently my wife started feeling her back bugging her a bit and she started seeing this chiropractor. The woman wants to see her on a biweekly basis and my wife is convinced she is helping her. I personally think she is just milking money out of her and pretty much wants my wife to be her lifelong customer.

If my wife really has a serious back issue shouldnt be seeing a real doctor because from what i have seen nothing short of surgery truly helps and my wife claims to just have minor pain occasionally. Does anyone have any experience with these supposed "Doctors" and do they really help ??? I just feel like we are getting SCAMMED. Personally i think that money would be better spent on a massage therapist instead of a chiropractor.

The only "Diagnosis" she got was that she should come in ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK FOR THE FIRST FEW WEEKS and then she will put her on a "MAINTENANCE" schedule which will be once a month. We dont have health insurance and i think its fucking retarded to get ripped off like this. She only said her spine was OUT OF LINE/ ALIGNMENT and it would be better eventually. She didnt even xray her so how the fuck does she know its out of alignment anyway? Btw my wife is only 23 years old with NO MEDICAL CONDITIONS.

Yeah seek a second opinion. But as you said earlier, you are probably better off just going to some thai/sports remedial massage. Its much cheaper, and very effective.

This is a quote from Ken Sprague who owned golds gym in the 70's regarding chiros...

I can remember back in the '70s when the written portion of the chiropractic exam was taken (surreptitiously) by the future chiropractors wife---he did the practical "manipulation" portion of the exam.

Of course, there was Cleveland Chiropractic College in LA which turned out most chiropractors at that time---high school diplomas weren't required and I knew several clearly retarded bodybuilders exploited through admission. The first attempt to read the text books sent them packing.

And in the 1980s, I owned a gym that leased space to a chiro and MD for 75% of the gross---the gym drew potential customers who had nurses as trainers; insurance covered the first 16 "therapy/workouts."  All in all, it was a profitable venture---the chiro billed $35K his first month and $60K his second, not bad "rental" for <1000 square feet.

I was always amazed that everyone who walked into the chiropractic area "had a rib out"--- those statistics indicate that Los Angelenos were walking wrecks, or perhaps, profit had something to do w/ diagnoses.

Personally, I'm not a believer in chiropractic.

Its a scam.

Chiros are not medically qualified doctors. They may hang a few certificates to state they are "licensed chiropracters" or done some kind of course, but the whole thing is a scam, with a very doubious and unclear scientific basis, especially those who talk about "energy flows", "spine allignment" etc.

Best case scenario, your wife is getting a bit of a massage and spending a bit of money, but at worst she is being scammed and possibly even risks being injured.

In all essence it can not even exist, the spine is not 'adjustable'. If it were we would be collapsing left and right

I think it all depends on what the problem is.  I wouldn't go to one who didn't do an x-ray.  Maybe your wife just likes to have another woman touch her in that way?

Chiropractors will heel you, but then purposly fuck you up so you have to keep going back to see them and they can keep taking your $$$. Fact.

Chiropractors do not claim to be medical doctors.  So, of course your first statement is true.  Have you ever investigated the curriculum of a chiropractor?  Have you ever compared the research out for chiropractic care versus medical care?  Are you aware that less than 30% of all medical procedures have been researched?  Its most often something one doctor came up with and had some success with?  Are you aware that coronary bypass surgery is the most common unnecessary surgery?  Squib/Bristol Meyer had to pay a HUGE fine for giving doctor kickbacks for prescribing their drugs.  Even the doctors in HMO's are under investigation for ordering tests because they get kickbacks.  These guys are there just punching a clock...not really doing anything to diagnose properly.

Yeah, chiropractors are the scammers.  ::)

combination of massage, stretching and electricity.  Milos recommended it to me and it solved a shoulder issue that had plagued me for months - in a single session.

you can find a doc near you at the link above.  it saved milos just hours before he was up for rotator cuff surgery.

Your GP is not going to be able to do anything for you wife; he'll literally be next to clueless in regards to this issue.  Some chiros are great.  The diagnosis your wife got is a relatively normal one-although once every two weeks sounds like about two weeks more often than what I've come to understand is best:a period of intense adjusting and then more like 1x per month.
An adjustment is a fast way of getting you out of pain, that's a fact...there's been plenty of times I couldn't walk or sit and an adjustment did the trick and I was fine. Although, the underlying factor is still usually muscular so what she should really be doing is seeing a physical therapist as well.  Last, back surgery is still something to be relatively weary of and only done as a last option.
