And finally....
That statement, in fact, is true. In fact, by Rachel Maddow's own admission, Governor Palin "put" the jet on eBay three times. More importantly, when the jet failed to sell on eBay, rather than give up, she found a buyer to take the unneeded property off the state books.
since you have Palins speech why don't you also show us Maddow's actual quote rather than your paraphrase of her quote.
When you read or hear the Palin quote she is giving the impression (intentional or not) that she sold the jet on Ebay. I'm sure most people hearing that would assume she was saying she "got rid of it" on EBay. Why even mention putting it on EBay if it didn't work? Maybe it Palin's intent was not to be misleading and maybe she is just a bad communicator.
Either way, post speech the pundits do their thing and talk about the speech. Maddow was obviously filling in the omission and pointing out that Palin did not in fact actually sell the jet on Ebay.
If you only heard the speech you would come away with the impression that she sold the thing on Ebay and in fact one of my neighbors who only watches Fox news told me that very "fact" after the speech.
I'm going to take back my earlier suggestion that maybe this poor choice of words was not intentional. I believe Palin's intent was to mislead. From everything we've seen from her since she has proven she has no problem lying or being misleading. Why would you talk about getting rid of things in one sentence and then in the next sentence say you put something on Ebay and leave out the salient fact that you didn't actually sell it on EBay. It's not Palin's fault if people who hear that get the wrong impression.....right?
While I was at it, I got rid of a few things in the governor’s office that I didn’t believe our citizens should have to pay for.
That luxury jet was over the top. I put it on eBay.
