Consulting the getbig brain trust...
« on: October 12, 2009, 07:35:24 PM »
I was tossing a schmoe moving a refrigerator yesterday when my untrained weakling little brother lost his grip on the appliance, which dropped it upon my foot.

Despite my unfashionable weight belt and fingerless Behringer gloves, my lack of steel-toed lumberjack boots was indeed my downfall.  Feels like a broken toe.

Now, instead of going to the doctor to get a popsicle stick and some tape and missing 4 hours of message board posting time, I'm just bringing my medical question here, so that the phD braintrust here can give me some solicited and entertaining medical advice.

Specifically, do I just tape the broken big toe to the ugly toe to next to it?  Do I use a popsicle stick too?   is leg training affected?  Thanks friends.

Rob, if any part of this is true. You need to isolate the big toe and find a firm slim peice of metal to place under your toe and tape with medical tape. After that you need some ace bandages to wrap your foot with, to insure your toe stays in place at a slightly elivated position to reduce swelling while standing. You must rewrap everyday and no unneeded pressure on the toe.

thanks, it actually is true.  No schmoe tossing, but my girly man brother did drop a fridge on my toe while we were moving it.

What item do you recommend for the metal?  how long to wrap it for?

Thanks!

Rob,

You should know by now that if and when you are injured, you seek legal advice before seeking medical advice. Things like homeowner's insurance, premises liability, and umbrella policies are all there to ensure your financial well-being and your child's future college education. If your lawyer tells you to go to the doctor, you go. If he tells you it's your fault, you're a moron, and hangs up on you, grab a popsicle.

Pretty funny 240, a waitress at my work dropped a full bottle of champaign on my foot a while ago, and ended up breaking my pinky toe lol...it actually hurt pretty bad for a few days, and was really sensitive when putting on socks/shoes, no running or treadmill for a few weeks, even kind of threw off my balance a little while doing squats, but after about a month, I don't feel it anymore, maybe it heeled i don't really know, but as a Getbig consultant I would advise you to give it a week or two and see what happens. Good luck Broski!

I have had a few busted big toes is the only reason I know this. I would recommend something aluminum if possible that is dense enough to hold but thin enough to mold in a vice and or pliars. Keep rewrapping it for 4 weeks then check light pressure on it if it swells, ice then rewrap prop foot up and continue prior wrapping for 3 more weeks. Should heal by then.

I'm already eating a popsicle.  Happened at dad's house, and he recommended Block's advice to walk it off.

It may impede your ability to squat 455 for 20 but I doubt it.   ;D
