This won't be the first time someone has been denied buying a team. The MLB and the other team owners pretty much fucked Mark Cuban out of buying the Cubs when he wanted to.

The Cubs are being sold. They filed for bankruptcy so that the creditor's can't file claims after the team changes hands. They'll be out of Chapter 11 in a week. Was all part of the agreement.

i'd be interested to see how many quit playing...my guess is when the rubber hits the road and there is the choice to either play in the NFL or box groceries...most would be picking the NFL.

thats not how it would go down...it's not play for the rams or bag groceries.thats a juvinile and not very well thought out statement.....theres 31 other teams to play for and the free agents will just choose to play elsewhere....

The rams are an awful franchise right now with what looks to be a 2-14 team.

Why not let some rich a hole who wants to make the team better purchase a controlling interest in it?

Rush is not going to coach football-- He's not going to do anything except sit in the owners box and hire his head coach and GM.

You dont have to know jack shit about football to be a good owner. The Patriots owner also owns Kraft. Do you think he was a first round draft pick or coached football before?

You also can know about football and be a fucking hideous owner ala Al Davis-- Or you can know some football, but think you know more than you do like Jerry Jones.

At the end of the day, who cares? It's a business. If he can make the franchise better, more power to him. I do not think he will be one of these vocal, jackass on TV constantly type owners like Mark Cuban. Rush is not going to do anything to hurt himself economically. If anything, I think owning the team might calm him down a bit.

I find it funny that somehow they think Rush is a racist, but I guess none of the other owners are?  Whatever.  Keep thinkin' that.  This is nothing more than a Sharpton torpedo job to get his goofy ass on TV.

Why the NFL Can’t Let Rush Limbaugh Be a Team Owner « blog maverick

Oct 13th 2009 9:23PM

First, let me say I love when I can talk about other leagues. It’s a freedom I really, really enjoy.  But lets get to the issue.

I’m guessing the NFL doesn’t really care about what Rush has said before on his show and on other platforms. If it were really an issue, they never would have let him in the broadcast booth a few years back.

What they should be terrified about , and why they should keep him out,  is what he might say AFTER he was an approved investor in the St Louis Rams.

The NFL has plenty of owners who I am sure have very strong political opinions.  I’m willing to bet that many of them back up those opinions with donations that are all part of the public record.  I’m sure some of those probably don’t align with the best interests of the NFL or even the majority of their fans and customers.    I can give you a minor example I have had with the NBA.  I am never on the same page as the NBA when it comes to copyright issues. I believe we waste too much  NBA money trying to fight piracy and other intellectual property issues.  We have agreed to disagree on this and other issues. It’s not a problem.  Nor do individuals who fall on either side of the copyright issue make their sports consumption decisions based on copyright positions.

Its a great thing that we all  just accept the fact that owners, leagues and fans can be on different sides of a variety of issues.  We love our sports and want to reserve a spot for them away from life’s partisan issues and problems. Thank goodness for that !

The problem with Rush is that its his job to take on all of life’s partisan issues and problems.  Not only is it his job to take on these issues and problems, its key to his success that he be very opinionated about whichever issues he feels are important to him and/or will cause his very large audience to tune in.  Given that we will never know what the “next big issue ” in this world that Rush will be discussing on his show is,  its impossible for the NFL to even try to predict or gauge the impact on the NFL’s business if something controversial, or even worse yet, something nationally polarizing happens. There is an unquantifiable risk that comes with the size of Rush’s audience.  The wrong thing said on the show, even if its not spoken by Rush himself,  about a sensitive national or world issue could turn into a Black Swan event for the NFL.

Thats a huge risk that is not commensurate with the value a minority investment in a franchise brings.

This isnt about Free Speech. Its about the NFL protecting their business.  There is no reason to put it at risk.  If Rush were to retire from his show, or become a local DJ in Sacramento, or just about anything else he may want as a vocation, then I dont think they would have any problem with him being an investor in a team.

Given the current set of circumstances, they would be crazy to approve him as an owner.

^absolute bull shit^ this is assuming that rush will try and inject some political bs into this team or his position on the team.

First off he wouldnt be a sole owner but a group of ppl who own the rams...

second off there are plenty of ppl with political ideology that dont inject them into other areas of their life...

its idiotic and down right assinine to think that rush would operate in the same fashion in this arena as he would in the political arena...

LOL do you even know anything? your thought process is flawed, however you are right that only 1-2 players are good enough to start else were....thats why over half the players on the team will be cut after the season...then another quarter of the players are free agents which means they can go play for other teams....so with 3/4 of the players gone...and the fact that alot of star players along with the players union have been outspoken against Limbaugh.what do you think the Rams chances of building a team would decent players would be?Hence my statement.

If Rush buys this team look for them to have many years just like the year there having this year...

Thats the only way he knows to operate...thats why he got kicked off the pregame football show he was on so fast..He knows how to do nothing else but being a loud mouth and state his opinions as facts....

So we have Jesse Jackson, who has admitted to spitting in white peoples food and Al Sharpton who made up out of thin air a rape case to ram whites into jail and caused riots, opposing Rush.Thse are the two jackoffs that dictate NFL policy?

By the way,we have a liberal jerkoff congressman from Rhode Island making laws for us to follow, named Patrick Kennedy.A strung out junkie whos been in and out of rehab his entire life.Should we be forced to obey ANY law he passes.Hes a junkie, spawned from the loins of that drunken jerk Dead Kennedy.

For the record, I think Al Sharpton is a bigger clown than Rush Limbaugh.

The difference between the two are that some people actually tend to take Rush serious.

Al Sharpton is just... a fool.

Not even worth paying attention to.

But both are definitely racists.

I'm neutral on Limbaugh, but I'm pretty sure he didn't promote it - he parodied it.  Big difference.  You should listen to the transcript.

People just running with this stuff is part of the problem.  I've heard callers on the radio making the same statements, without actually hearing the context of it.

al Sharpton is no fool.  He is a ruthless zealot.  Read about what happened at a place called Freddy's in the Bronx on Pelham Parkway.  This is about 2 minutes from me and he incited a riot where they burned the damn place down and I think a few people died.

Great clip.  The left is just jealous of Rush since they dont, wont, cant, and have never had anyone close to equal popularity, stature, and influence of Rush.
