Fox host credits Bush with recovery
« on: October 15, 2009, 06:27:18 PM »
So now we have a FOX news host saying the economy is recovering.  Is he wrong?  But if he's right, Bush gets credit, right?  ;)

Fox News host Neal Cavuto appears to think that the United States is enjoying an economic recovery. Perhaps more surprisingly, he's talking up the idea that former President George W. Bush is somehow responsible for it.

Cavuto made his claims after a Wednesday segment seeming to celebrate the Dow Jones Industrial Average's return to 10,000.

"Meanwhile, big banks are spurring this big rally," he said. "... A year ago, remember, they were the ones behind the big meltdown. Which is why former President George W. Bush was saying in South Korea early this morning his big bank bailout was to thank -- is to thank. So, what was once the Bush recession was once the Bush recovery? Is that a stretch?"

This, in spite of a national growing unemployment rate last measured at nearly 10 percent, according to the United States Department of Labor.

Putting a question to his guest, Cavuto alleged that he was a big critic of President Bush and his $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), but did not realize how close to "the edge" America's economy was. "He took the bold moves and look where we are a year later," he said.

So the economy (which collapsed in Oct 08) is in shambles because of Obama.

And it'll never recover.  But now we're hearing it is recovering - from FOX.

But the recovery is only because of Bush.

This shite is confusing.

Well, if you believe that TARP was necessary and you believe that it worked, then yes you do have to give Bush some credit. Unfortunately it is arguably impossible to conclusively prove that it was needed and that it worked.

But its interesting that Cavuto now supports TARP. Because I do remember that he was against it. I wonder what specifically caused him to change his mind. What is it that made him realize that the economy was on the edge?

There is no recovery for anyone other than the criminal banksters behind Bush & Obama.

Bush deserves some credit for making sure that the whole economy worldwide didn't collapse.

However the wealth of America hasn't really changed since February.
Its just your dollar dropping against everyone else.

I think Bush is as responsible for the stock market come back as Obama is. Although I voted for Bush, I think his biggest job, which he was highly successful at, was protecting this country from terrorists. He spent money like a drunken sailor, as did the Republicans when in control. This is mostly the reason why the repubs lost the election. Like Bush who inherited Clinton's inept handling of the terror situation, he did what needed to be done. Bush did also inherit the down turn in the econ. in 2000 and did well there too with tax cuts and the market hit 14k; the highest ever. But Obama, who I agree inherited a complete screw up of the econ. by both parties, now has to find a way to fix it. I am not sure if he knows enough, has the experience, and understands how our economy works. I diidn't agree with the Bush bailouts and I certainly do not agree with the stim packages that has shown to have done nothing. Time will tell, but I think Obama is treading water and he is a 1 term pres. at best.

Bush's tax cuts were a huge contributor in the devaluation of the dollar.   He should've never messed with "boosting the economy" in 2001.  It was a normal downturn in the business cycle (and a normal "correction" from the tech bubble) that would've rebounded just fine  had he not worsened the deficit by applying those tax cuts, while boosting spending.   The awful decline of the dollar started on Bush's watch due to those tax cuts, and that led to the worsening of everything else.... specifically the skyrocketing oil prices in 03/04/05/06/07/08, that took money out of consumer pockets, made it more difficult to pay their mortgage, which in combininationwith the lack of regulation on wall street, led to the financial system collapse, and      etc...   Now Obama is making things even worse by bailouts and stiumuls packages, much of which is either unnecessary, or ineffective.

I don't think FOX is saying we are in recovery, but that the market is showing signs of positive growth. The market is the first indicator of a slumping/growing econ.

I agree to some of this but the tax cuts did nothing to the value of the dollar. If you go back top Reagan who did the same thing (cut taxes) the dollar was strong. Actually, the trade def. is a bigger cause to the change in value of the dollar than anything else. We are importing more than we are exporting, we owe more than we are owed, (or follow up payment on because if we required countries to pay us back we would all be millionaires). Tax cuts put more money in the hands of investors. Investors create jobs, invest in companies, and on and on. This snowball effect grows the econ and it is a proven simple catylist.
In this econ. collapse, it started with greedy banks, greedier politicians and we as usual, are the victims. The dollar fell because if the reprocussions of this greed. Tax cuts had us at 14k on the Dow and 4k on the Nasdaq.
